Western Pennsylvania Trip in August

I'll be taking my daughter to Slippery Rock University in mid August.

We live in Southeast Texas so I'm looking forward to playing something different.

Looking for recommendations or places to avoid within a 20 or 30 drive from the University.

Depending on how much you are looking to spend.  I have always heard this is an amazing course.

Def put this on your list as it is about 30 minutes away and a great track.

It's been about 5 years since I was playing in the area, but I lived there for a long time.

 

Aubrey's Dubbs Dred is a super tough track and used to be considered a good value in terms of conditions relative to greens fees but if you have casual players it might be frustrating for them

 

Stoughton Acres is super cheap and kind of nice track, back nine is better than the front.  No alcohol and kind of weird owners but great option to get a cheap round in

 

Green Meadows in Volant is well maintained and long enough from the blues it can provide a good test to good players but wide open enough it won't kill the average player

 

Slippery Rock Golf Club and Events Center is under new ownership since I played there.  It used to be private and well kept.  Would likely be closest for you

 

Olde Stonewall is a much nicer but much more expensive option

 

Strawberry Ridge is a shorter course that has some fun holes

 

Cranberry Highlands is a little farther away but in a more populated area and gets busy.  Kind of a middle option nicer and pricier than some of the others but still 2 notches below Stonewall

 

Lake Arthur, Conley, Krendale are other options, none of them are remarkable to me

Olde Stonewall is definitely on the list for a future visit, but I will probably try and go a little cheaper this time out. Kind of leaning towards Slippery Rock Golf Club for convenience sake this time around.

Ended up playing 36 at Slippery Rock Golf Club on Wednesday and 18 at Aubrey's Dubbs Dred on Friday.

Both courses were in great shape. Really enjoyed the change in scenery.

Aubrey's Dubbs Dred lived up to the hype when it came to the back nine... some of the toughest holes I've ever played.
