New Driver fit numbers, optimal or too low spin?

I haven’t been happy with my current G410 max 10.5deg, stock tensei orange stiff, as it’s ballooning a bit and shaft feels a bit loose, so went to my local store where they have a new gcquad.  The fitter was helpful but no expert, some other customers came in and he left me to mess around with whatever I wanted. My best results by far were with Callaway Rogue ST Max LS 9deg with the Tensei AV white stiff, -1”, shaft was on the rack with label saying shorter for better control so thought why not even though I’m 5 11. It actually gave me same club speed but really suited my swing and allowed me to really feel I could hit up on ball. Shaft was stronger than what I am using but as soon as I realised I could really release it and it just wouldn’t go left I really got into it. Now my main question is that to my untrained eye the numbers look great and further than I usually hit but are the spin numbers too low? When I’m looking at optimal numbers online they seem to be a few hundred rpm higher, what are the disadvantages if spin is too low? I was using my normal ball prov1x.

My experience very closely matches this chart. My SS is most often exactly 100 mph. My carry is 240 and total usually about 260.

 

At 103 mph, there’s no way you’re producing 300 yard drives. It’s possible that the launch monitor has been, um, mis-calibrated.

It is rather rare on this forum but low spin is a problem for some of us. Where it really rears its head is on mishits. If you are already on the lower end of optimal spin for your specific ball speed then a high strike will result in a knuckle ball that can lose quite a bit of distance.

They probably are more than your used to - but also more than you should expect in real life.  Foresight's software is well known to over estimate distance for low spin shots.   A more realistic carry for those numbers would be ~252 yards.

But to answer the question the only problem with "too low" is that you might loose a little distance - more so down wind.

 

The general belief that low spin is less forgiving is a common misconception but has no real basis that's been properly validated.

Ignore the total numbers because no launch monitor can predict how much rollout a ball is going to have as there are way too many variables.  30 yards of rollout is a lot for some courses and not much for PGA set up courses where the fairways are mowed super short. The carry numbers of around 270 aren't too far off given the launch/spin at the given swing speed and the fact that he's getting peak smash factor.

A lower spinning driver shot just won't peak as high and won't give as much carry, but will roll farther.  As long as your mis-hits are not falling out of the sky(knuckle ball) and you generally play on courses with medium to firm fairways, I see no issues.  Many of us would kill for those numbers.

 

With that said, just know that you probably can't take an "easy swing" on your driver as a slower swing will produce even less spin and then would fall into the too-low spin range.

 

By the way, have you tried turning the driver up to 10* in the sim and see what happens?  If you start to hook it due to the closed face, is there a flat setting on it?
