Shortest time you've owned a club and why

Vater

Recommended Posts

I know some of you have a steady stream of clubs coming and going as you're testing, swapping, trading, and generally building up an arsenal. But I'm asking what's the shortest time you kept an honest to goodness, you're going to put it in the bag and play it, club.

Happened to me recently. I tried out various 3 woods, found a great deal on the one that tested best for me, played with it one round, didn't like the way it gapped and would crowd out my money 5 wood... so I turned around and returned it. From box on my porch to back at the UPS shipping center - four days.

I actually really, really liked the club and the shaft was so smooth. But it was great in isolation. In combination with my driver and 5 wood on the course, it caused conflict.

Custom ordered a Cobra Speedzone driver. It arrives at my local Worldwide Golf and I pay and head to the range. Hit 5 balls and went right back to the store to get my in store credit. Knew on the first swing it was all wrong. For the record I’ve hit Cobra drivers almost exclusively for 10+ years.

I picked up a Callaway X Forged wedge sometime between 2007-2010, don't remember exactly, and it spent 2 range sessions and 2 rounds in my bag before I gave it away. Had good numbers in the sim, but absolutely didn't fit my eye for whatever reason and never felt comfortable with it.  Went from there to Nike wedges and never looked back.

I'm ashamed to say I purchased a Rogue 15o 3w back as a total impulse buy one afternoon thinking I'd go all Callaway in the woods. When the matching driver showed up broken, I decided to ditch the Callaway plan altogether.

Sim 1 8° Driver. One swing was all it took. Cracked in the weight track lol.

Exchanged under warranty for a Sim 2 8°. I almost didn’t even hit it after looking down at the profile. Took one swing and I texted my brother “Do you want a Sim2 driver?”

Hit two more times just to be sure, and put the headcover back on. Hasn’t come off since.

That being said, there is a minty Sim2 8° if someone wants it…

Custom set of Titleist 620MB's and Vokey 52 wedge, never hit them. Had my mind made up that I hated them for some reason. Eventually, I decided that I had to get off the iron merry-go-round. It was costing me money and not helping my game. So I went and bought a set of T100's. But, I had 3 iron sets between the 620MB's and the T100s.

Does 1 hour count?

I bought a Cobra Rad Speed and I loved it. Then I bought another one, thinking I need a stiff shaft of the same shaft of my first one which was a regular shaft. I was dead wrong. I could not hit the damn thing and it felt like a totally different club!

I posted it right away online after 1 hour of trying to make it work indoors. I sold it as well within 1 hour after posting it. LOL

I go through stuff but not quickly.

Quickest may be right now. Got a really good deal on a ventus tr. Got adapter on it and hit it on sim against my regular vblue. Numbers weren't really different as I expected. I have no reason or desire to test it more so I already listed it. Just got it last week.

Won a TM Big Foot wedge for closest to pin in a scramble. Was excited because I was in the market for a new wedge, it was very popular, and a good friend raved about his.

Before leaving course, went to practice area and spent 20 minutes hitting sand shots, pitches, and chips. Stopped on way home and traded it in at retail store for newer version of what I was playing.  Total ownership time less than 2 hrs.

Had a tour issued SIM Max 5w all spec'd and customized only to take it out and be completely turned off by how it looked behind the ball. Nothing inherently wrong with the club or anything, just the paint lines trying to create the illusion of there being no roll on the face to make it look more like an iron just absolutely crossed my eyes. Had it in the bag for one round and then parted it out and sold it for a massive loss. 😅

OG Sim.  Lasted one range session and 27 holes…. Infuriated me watching the ball go right and didn’t want to waste the brain power screwing with 20 dollar weights for the next 2 months.   Don’t want my driver to dictate my ball flight.. rather let my swing/hands do that.

Bought a Bobby Grace putter brand new on eBay for next to nothing, get it, unwrap it, hit 3 putts, take photos for sales post.

It was just too soft, almost mushy, I need some feedback on a putter, it was nice and rolled well but no feel for me. Oh well hopefully the new owner liked it.

WAY back in the day (literally before some of you were born)... Wilson released the "invex" driver in 1996. John Daly (Wilson staffer at the time) put it in the bag at one point.

It was given the nickname of the "clamshell" driver as the shape resembled a clam.  It was supposed to increase SS based on the aerodynamic shape (I doubt it, but that was the marketing).  It also had a much-hyped titanium hosel.

Bought it on a Friday evening.  1st swing with it was on the 1st tee on Saturday morning (no range at that course).  I think the shaft was too light (off the rack) and I caught it severely heel-side.  The driver snapped at the hosel, with the ball going into the pond about 50 yards in front of the tee.  The head spun like a frisbee, cleared the pond and landed in the fairway about 100yds away.

The roar of laughter from my friends (and others near the 1st tee) still echoes in my ears. LMAO.

I returned it to Edwin Watts after the round.  Elapsed time about 18 hours.  Didn't buy another one.
