T100s not working out

Recommended Posts

Looking to some advice. 9 handicap here.  I have been  playing p790 (2021) for the past year and was playing really good golf. Shot my PR with it. And then decided to switch to t100s for looks and feel. Well, I can’t hit these irons. I thought I was a good ball Striker with p790s. After 7-8 rounds the t100s are making me work for my score versus the p790s. Looking for if anyone had a Similar situation? it is mainly in 5-7 irons I can’t hit consistent in t100s.

You were fit for the Titleist irons? or just bought them off the rack? Do the swingweights/lengths/lie match up with the previous set? May just take a while to get into a groove with the new sticks. If they are drastically different to your old set or are way off from being a proper fit that could certainly be an issue.

Mid - long T100s have different/weaker specs, including offset, and not as forgiving as 790s.   IMO 790's are hollow, with CB forgiving heads inside the foam filled cover, made to look more blade like.

... Having played both, there is certainly a difference between these two. 790's were great on soft midwest courses but I had a hard time holding greens on hard fast Phoenix greens due to the reduced spin. T100S fit the bill for spin but not quite as forgiving and not as long. That said I thought the T100S were relatively forgiving for the type of iron they are, but again a noticeable difference compared to the 790's. Then of course there is the confidence factor and if you think you don't hit them well, there is a good chance you won't.

Same shaft?  Same playing length?  Same swing weight?  Same grip?

If more has changed between the two sets than just the heads,  it might not be the heads that's causing the problem.

If impact falters after a club change, shaft weight or swing weight tend to be the more common culprits - although not the only possibility by any means.

Its a transition. The T100's are much less forgiving and require good speed and ball striking. The P790's, well, thiose you can smoke. They're hollow, foam, speed slots, all that makes this club very popular and the 790 looks carry them over the top. The T100 's are for sure a learning curve coming off the 790's.

What shafts were/are you playing in each line?

I find the P790 5 and 6 irons easier to hit than the T100S but from 7-AW I really prefer the T100s irons.  I'm using a combo set, since I own both sets, and it's working out really nicely for me.  Been hitting my irons really well since I made the switch to the mixed set.  It's crazy but working for me so going to stick with it.  Hopefully I won't start messing around with other irons and foul up what is good.
