Done chasing new drivers

I have an old Titleist K9## and and old Mizuno MP%%% drivers that I hit with my GC3 every time I get the bug to consider replacing my Stealth Plus. I hit them all the same distance. I’m a little more consistent with the Stealth Plus, but It’s only a yard or two longer.

Probably 10 different driver head / shaft combos in the last 2 year but building speed the entire time which warranted switching. Buying used and trading up quickly helped keep the cost down.

 

Just hit my best round with 78% FH with a SIM2 MAX D 10.5 and AV White shaft and celebrated by drunkenly winning a bid for a LTDx LS 9.0 with Tensei 1k shaft.

Persimmon woods are arrows…have at it.  Don’t kid yourself the arrow makes a difference

agreed but to an extent... a turned up driver isn't going to fix a slice caused by a bad swing path, just like the "D" drivers aren't a cure all for a slice. I think a lot of folks think a draw or fade biased club is going to cure poor fundamentals. Learned this the hard way. Took lessons this summer and have been playing my best golf yet. Face angle/swing path is everything

Face angle/swing path is almost everything. If you're Iron Byron and hit the exact same spot on the face every time then the forgiveness aspect is moot. Since we mere mortals aren't that precise a driver that doesn't severely penalize you for less than perfect contact is a good thing. Some are absolutely better than others in that regard.

This I believe would be the argument for newer drivers.  I don't believe you gain much distance from a perfectly struck ball over a 5-10 year old driver, but I do believe your mishits would fare better with a newer stick.

Only reason I buy a new driver (at least within last 5 years or so) is because I get reimbursed when doing so; otherwise, I'd stick with what I had......distance on center strikes pretty much maxed out due to COR and other regs, but forgiveness is where the improvements have really come along in past few years.

Decided on an experiment of sorts.  Been using the 300 Mini with a fair bit of success.  

 

Been losing the 300 left on occasion.  I have a SpeedZone, decided to put the HZRDUS in it, the clubhead set to the same weight as the 300 Mini.  And I hit it about the same, with less left.

 

Wondered about spin.  Have a SLDR White lying around.  Plugged the HZRDUS in the SLDR, took it out for a round.  Results were fairly similar, though rain recently makes a comparison a bit less clear.

 

Not really chasing drivers, just working my way thru the extras.  🙂

The last few rounds have confirmed the choice, can just swing away with the GBB, no thoughts or worries.

 

it’s funny, had added the TSi3 3/5 woods so my woods matched, then ditched the driver, but have fallen in love with the new fairways, they are amazing

I have a similar perk.  We have a program called "Trade Time for Fitness," where we can use PTO hours to reimburse fitness related spending, with an annual limit.

 

Golf clubs are included as eligible spending in this program.  🙂

Same with my work.I get $500 per year on golf equipment and more. They started it last year and I grabbed an Evnroll ER2B right away lol 

 

But playing with great players with older clubs, who drives past me made me rethink of chasing drivers every year lol

It was an issue with the G400 series drivers. I had two G400 Max drivers do that. Ping replaced them, but eventually, they ran out of Max driver heads.

Of course there's been some duds the past 5 years, and of course you need to be fit correctly, but I don't really think drivers have improved much (if any) the past 5 years.

Same here ... the did offer me the 410 at a decent discount ... very refreshing that they would do that
