So reading this thread, one thing is jumping out at me.  And not saying one is right or wrong, just really noticing the difference.

If a player in the men's event would have had a 5 shot lead and needed a playoff to win, I'd be a rich man collecting a nickel for every time the word choked was printed.  There would be discussions as to whether they were mentally tough enough, got lucky, etc.  The closest I've seen here is the post about "shoot that high on final day maybe you shouldn't win."

Just an interesting double standard is all....

I think we've seen this scenario before. Ariya Jutanugarn in the US Open in '18 right. I don't think anyone mentioned "choked" in that situation.

Don't know how much this has been discussed, but AB was playing with a back injury of some sort.  She was managing it very well Friday and Saturday.  However, it was reported that she received some treatment either Saturday evening or pre-round on Sunday (maybe both?).

My speculation based on her Sunday swing and missed shots is that late in her Saturday round she tweaked her back requiring post round treatment.  Her swing on Sunday was more careful.  It was almost fragile looking.  Her miss was high and right indicative of coming up and out of shots. Low back issues make it hard to turn fully through a shot.  I think that's why she struggled on Sunday in addition to the pressure of the moment. Just a guess.

Just my 2 cents

Who is the more mentally strong: a player who shot even par 71 on Sunday to win by 4 or a player who gave away a 5 shot lead and comes back and wins a 4 hole playoff with stellar play.

Had she lost on the other hand than "she's a choker" moniker would have applied.

That isn't the question.  The question is would a man who had the exact same performance be described in the nice terms, or would the discussion be focused much more on how they blew it, got lucky in the playoff....

I will say, in fairness, that Lexi Thompson is a major exception my observation.  She is the only one who gets treated like men would be.

Win or lose the playoff, a man would not have had losing the 5 shot lead glossed over.

I would definitely rank it as a choke, I would have been gutted for AB if she lost.

Despite the lead, she also outplayed In Gee on every hole in the playoff. They have about equal driving distance #s for the season but AB was mashing her off the tee.  She had about 4 one off putts to win. That being said it was a very gutsy win. She will be remembered more for the win and not how she won it.

Ok then first off I don't buy you're premise.  "Everybody would consider a man a choker" I think is BS cause I wouldn't and so would most people here by the replies.  There are those on any forum who enjoy tearing others down I just don't think it's the majority.  It's a strawman argument, so which guy was called a choker under what circumstances.  Like was mentioned AB also ended up winning, I'm not sure a choker has even won the event in which they choked.

One American in the top 27. What gives?

Lovely for Buhai to win, even though I was mightily impressed with In Gee.

I was kind of intrigued to see In Gee sitting down with a drink while waiting for Ash to finish. It is more usual for players to hit balls, n'est pas?

In Gee was in the group ahead of Ashleigh, and was only 12 minutes ahead. Not much time to hit the range. I think hydrating and grabbing a light snack was the right call.

Unfortunately the US talent is not that deep, especially on a links course. Lexi had her worst tournament in quite some time, Nelly was one of the first to tee off Sunday, the Vu magic was gone, Kupcho was vocal about not liking links golf, Jess dissapeared after day 1, Annie missed the cut by 1. Yealimi is struggling to keep her card for next year.

But kudos to Alison Lee who has played well since getting her first win on the LET last season.

Since 1994, there have only been two American winners, Stacy and Mo in '13 and' 14. By comparison, 15 American men have won the Open Championship since 1994. I know that Americans aren't really exposed to links golf, but you'd think that being a major championship, there would be a little more preparation.

I can't back this up with data, but I doubt they have ever gone as badly as 1 in the top 27!

I know they reputedly don't like links golf, but this was staggering! In comparison, you can sense players like In Gee, Lydia, Minjee and of course Ashleigh Buhai growing in stature when it gets tough. It's patient and persistent types who prevail.

I personally think it's a combination of links golf and cool windy weather.
