Anyone else have trouble saying good bye?

I was up to 3 sets of irons. Now I have my bag plus a few swappable hybrids and I have 5 different putters because I keep thinking I'm going to test them but that hasn't happened..

I sell everything I can and do my best to finance my purchases that way. For the most part I’ve always done pretty well at it. I have no issue letting go however, I’m not one to go back to something often after I’ve moved on.

I have my regular bag (see sign line) along with the following "others."

• Backup bag: By chance ended up all Taylormade, based on SLDR irons, related SW and LW, and assorted TM long clubs in blue-and-white TM stand bag. 
• MacGregor MT bag: Contains MacGregor MT forged flatsole irons (1971) and MT woods from a few years later, plus MacG SW and (oddball) Acushnet Bullseye putter. Clubfitter who made my replacement set suggested I keep them in vintage bag as memento and "time capsule".
• Pro Tour Black bag: replacing the MT family, these clones of Eye2 irons + wedges and my first metal woods; used for 14 years. (Actually, long clubs got replaced by Air Zevo driver and Tour Edge BAzooka FWs.
• Garage sale bag: This is a very nice custom leather bag from early 1960s, plus Spalding Executive irons (circa 1966), and Powerbilt woods 1-2-3. SW and putter (oth brand X) round out the set. Clubs were only hit a few times.
  • These are solid items my brother got for chump change at estate sales 20 years ago.
  • Would like to arrange a trade-out to rebuild my original high school playing set (graduated in 1969): Spalding Syncro-Dyned irons (~1953), Wilson Staff persimmon woods 2, 3, 4, a Wilson Triple Duty wedge, and old mallet putter.

I also have a set of Callaway X20 Tours (played from 2011 to 2018), plus a bag full of Cleveland CG14 wedges - at least one of each loft - with assorted shafts. Beginners can try the out to see effect different loft increments and shafts have on wedge flight.

 

Also, a scattering of drivers, fairway woods and putters.

 

That said, I have sold off an equal number of clubs since the 1970s, to finance newer material and clear storage space.

Too much of anything is bad…..but too much golf equipment is barely enough

Besides the main bag, a few sentimental favorites, a few putters and a full set of classic 80’s blades and persimmons. Everything else is gone. Got tired of looking at it. Who needs 20 worn out wedges anyway?

I like switching out irons. I've got some to sell now as I know which ones I want o keep. I've also got quite a few persimmons. This is part of what I have.

My modern bag is pretty much set except for a couple of different wedge lofts/grinds and a hybrid vs 9w vs #4 driving iron.

I do have a problem saying goodbye to clubs, but I do use what I have.

Now that I've updated my bag so that the equipment is around 10 years old or newer, a little bit yes. I still have my VAS irons collecting dust in the garage as well as some other clubs. Generally though I try to use stuff until it needs to be replaced, so then it's either donated or trashed/recycled etc.

 

I have saved a few clubs that have sentimental value and those will be put on a display board once my basement renovation is finished. I think from now on the clubs that are being replaced will go into the backup bag and the clubs those are replacing will probably be donated.
