No, but I don’t think that you are ‘nuts’ if you do.

If a $400 putter shaft is your thing, and you possess the disposable income, have at it.

I have a circle T in storage collecting dust that is worth north of 2k which I will sell one day or pass down to one of my nephews.  Bought it for a steal from a tour pro that desperately needed the money at the time.  I've taken it out for a round once but my gamer is a retail 2008 Newport 2 that's been money for the me for over a decade that's worth well below 400 bucks.

If that shaft gave me the same feel stroke after stroke so I can have a very repetitive stroke then ye 400 shaft for the.

I have a shaft worth that that and I does feel good just the head doesn't always line up for me.

No, I wouldn’t spend $400 on a putter shaft, but it’s your money spend how you like!

Not a chance, just don't see a putter shaft making any difference on a 6" - 12" stroke. And this is coming from someone who has an Autoflex in his Driver and 2wd.

In theory - absolutely yes!!!!    As long as it clearly made a successful improvement (however you define it) - absolutely yes.  For me it would be sinking more putts; and coming closer more often!  And it would improve my fun overall - how much is that worth?  LOL

It could also save me money too:  if I score better with the putter - guess what - I take fewer lessons.  That's a couple hundred right there.    I could sell my old putterS (and I have a couple of them) and probably make another $100-$200 on those.   And I could win more money maybe in my old-fart skins games ($25 is a lot on a weekend).

Don't get me started on drivers.  I think the same with them too.   I just got fitted for a driver this past weekend - and it's $900....but it only got me 7 more yards on average, and hitting 2-3 more fairways (tighter dispersion than my gamer...so that's not enough - I'm keeping my gamer.   But if the new driver were cheaper and it got me to 20 more yards?..I'd have a harder time saying no.   Again same analysis - with a +20 yard fairway finder - I could sell 6 drivers in my garage and almost pay for the new one.  🙂

...life is one big "strategy"!  🙂

Already felt a bit twatish paying 150$ for my putter shaft. Turned out to be a huge improvement in feel and looks. Coupled with an old and affordable putter head, it makes for a decent deal.

Although can't say for sure it's made a big performance difference, other than making it a bit more enjoyable to practice.

400$ though? Get out of here.

... Moving from Bent to Bermuda I could no longer use my 8802 and decided to buy a mallet expecting to spend $400 or more on a Scotty or Bettinardi. Didn't look at prices just performance and the mallet with the best balance, feel and holed the most putts was the Cleveland Huntington 11S. I was a little shocked to see the $129 price tag. So no, I would not buy a $400 shaft for a $129 putter.

not sure the point of this poll or question. But I will say I am surprised how many people, 60%, flat out said no. If some magical golf device existed that would lower your score for $400 you wouldn't buy it? We aren't talking about just straighter drives here, which may or may not lower score, these question said actual made putts.

Whenever these money questions come up I notice a lot of the wealthier golfers just ignore them. Ya there's guys on here with hand me down clubs having fun on $30 muni courses playing golf on the cheap. But there's also lots of guys on here who play high end public courses at +150 a pop or are members of private clubs and spend 10s of thousands of dollars a year on golf.

I recently went out for dinner and after drinks, tax and tip it was close to $400. Would much rather have bought golf gear that I could use for a decade vs a fancy meal.

People will justify anything. $400 is peanuts when compared to a $1000 putter with a $300 fitting. Whatever works for you!

Personally...if there was data that suggested it would shave off 2 or 3 strokes....I would buy it. That hasn't been my experience with expense shafts (in any club) thus far.

I have three Stability Tours in my gamers right now, so yes. Moving forward I won’t own a blade without one of the “tech” shafts in it. I’ve seen less benefit in larger mallet heads.

To get at least some idea if golfers would buy a $400 putter shaft, fully aware that this is a small subset of putter equipment conscious players within the overall universe of players. I’m not making any judgements, good or bad.

But I didn't have any feel for how many, either way. I'd like to have at least some quantifiable information and take in the rationale from prospective customers.

You were surprised about the ratio.

The ratios are still fluid.

I answered no, I had to justify adding on my $300 putter to my fitting. That being said, if I was trying one and one putting or leaving everything to tap in distance then yeah I would buy it.

Not sure how you can determine anything about someone’s overall wealth or levels of spending on golf from forum posts or what your dinner check was last night.
