Ping G400 Max vs. Ping G410 vs. Ping G425 Max Testing session

I played a 400max for a season & a half, it was point and shoot... One of the straightest drivers I've ever played but it was a spin MONSTER.  Even with a Tour 65X, the flight tended to balloon on me. I've since moved on to an LTDx, but I always wondered if the regular G400 or the LST would have had flattened launch enough to keep around

I’ve found the 400 max and LST to be superior to the 410 and 425

glad you found what works

A fellow league golfer is playing a G400 lst at 9° fitted into an ACCRA stiff. He hits shots that do not balloon, but has accuracy issues (hook into rough or ob), so he is looking to be fitted into a new driver over the winter, 44" and not low spin, give up low spin for accuracy.

Fun test OP.  Meanwhile, I had been playing the G425 Max for much of the season, and went back to my G400 Max. Like you said, they're all great.

G400 Max does have better feel and sound to me over the G425 Max, and that matters to me if the G425 Max is not heads and shoulders better (which it isn't for me). I played the G410 last season (which I would place third in this triumvirate).

G400 Max is just so uniquely forgiving. Sure I hit some bad drives with it, but it seems to give me the best chance of being in the fairway. YMMV.

I’ve played the G425 Max, the G400 Max and G410 LST. The LST feels and sounds the best and longest for me, the G425 Max felt and sounded the worst by far. The G400 Max is the best all around in my testing.

Loved mine for the reason you mentioned, point and shoot. Tried several shafts but didn’t get any distance, so I found , at the time , a g30 LST and it was good but didn’t keep up with a SIM2 Max I possessed.

Only Ping I ever thought was great distance wise was an older i25.

I saw a youtube launch monitor test between several of the ping drivers including 400, 410, and 425. pretty much exact same if you account for the standard deviation.

The i25 was a beast but not the most accurate for me. I found the original rapture to be long too, loved that club. I've had the g400 max in the bag for quite some time now and seem to have found the set up that works for me.

I've gamed the g400 max for quite some time now trying a few different shafts along the way. Tried the g410 which I didn't care for and the g425 max which I hated the sound of and saw no gains. I think if you find the right set up with the g400 max there's not a better driver out there. Mine is 10.5 lofted down to 9.5 with a Kuro Kage xd 60x. Sure there are plenty of lower spinning drivers out there if that's what you're after but this goes plenty far and is as forgiving as it gets.

I have to agree on the 425 Max.  I don't switch drivers often, but I usually gravitate toward the "longest".  I had been playing the original M1 since it released in 2016.  I decided 6 years was enough and wanted to go with the most forgiving driver for a change. I'm glad I did.

I've been really happy with the 425 Max and have been driving the ball more consistently than I have in a few seasons.  I only wish I could have gotten it with the Tensei Orange 60 in X.  I really didn't want to wait weeks/months on a custom order, so I went with the S flex off the rack.

I’m one of the weird guys that liked the G410 LST more than the G400 LST and 425 Max. In my experience the 425 max was very draw biased and for a fader that was hard to adjust to. The 410 LST was longer for me as well. I’ve now moved on to the TSi3 it’s longer and just as easy to hit straight as the 410 LST.

Gents,

I had been playing a Ping K15 Driver for 10 years a decided to buy a used Ping G400 max (bought it for $180) and was blown away at the distance I gained 25 yards and the consistency.  So I played that for 25 rounds and then started thinking how the Ping G410 and Ping G425 compared to it so I decided to do a little test.  I am a 20 Handicap, my buddy is a 2 and my other friend is a 9 so it was kind of cool to do this experiment.  They all had the standard Ping Alta shaft in stiff

I play a 9* driver so I decided to pull the trigger on a mint condition Ping G425 Max ( I got a steal for $365) and I invited my buddy over who just bought a new Ping G410 9* as well.

Myself and 3 buddies spent a hour and a half watching each other hit all 3 and we all agreed on the following....

1.  You cannot go wrong with any of these 3 drivers.  They are all very good and not much difference between the 3

2.  We noticed that the Ping G425 Max was the the longest (about 10 yards longer than the G400 Max) and about 15 yards farther than the Ping G410

3.  They are all very forgiving but we agreed that the Ping G425 Max was the easiest to hit especially with off center hits.  This is probably splitting hairs though because the Ping G400 Max and Ping G410 are right there.  The Ping G425 Max was just straighter than the other two more often.  We also liked the weight option on the Ping G425 Max and messed around with it a bit

Bottom line all 3 drivers are awesome but we all said that the Ping G425 Max is the best of the best.  Would I pay $550 for one right now?????  Nope....but as we all know prices will come down and you will be able to get a good deal soon.  I just bought mine in mint condition for $365 and had offers for $450 from a few people I know.  I ended up selling my Ping G400 max for $250 (bought it for $180) and am now committed to the Ping G425 Max because it is longer and straighter than the rest.  Not by much but it is the best of the best.

I do agree that it is a bit louder than the others but not nearly as bad as some made it out to be.  We did hit it outside so maybe the noise would be worse inside but I never go to inside facilities.

Do yourself a favor....buy one of these 3 drivers......they are fantastic and there will be some good deals coming out very soon.

In my opinion and my buddies the Ping G425 Max is legit and is better than the other two.  Not $500 better but as prices drop ya better not let one of these get away from you 🙂

Thank god I dumped my G400 max and went with the Ping G425 max

Thanks for the test!

  • 4 weeks later...

So I’ve been playing the ‘17 M2 since it came out, and since the 410 Plus was a steal, barely used for $250 I got it. I fell in love. It’s slightly longer on the pured shots but the forgiveness is crazy. My toe hits were going straight and not losing much distance at all. I know the G400 is a cult classic, and the 425 is the newest and greatest, but for me the 410 just flat out works. It’s the first Ping club I’ve ever owned, but as of now I’m in love.

410 Plus works really well for me. Played a G2 I bought new until 2 years ago. 410 plus was a slight improvement on ball speed on center strikes, but where is really helped me was on mis hits. Misses hardy lose distance and stay on line. And i have hit a handful of shots this year that i think are slightly high/slightly toe direction hits that seem to stay in the air forever and were statistical anomalies for my distance average.

I picked up a 410 plus with the Tour 65R; the flatter lie adjustment seems to help my ball striking and it feels very solid. Still hanging onto the G400 Max for now.

Does anybody find the G425 Max to have a draw bias? Even playing with the hosel/weight I'm finding it going left a little more than I like. Going to play around with the shaft as well, but now thinking maybe I should have gone with the LST.
