Bizarre Ebay selling experience

Recommended Posts

Have been a longtime Golfwrx lurker and club guy and finally wanted to sell off a few things sitting in my office collecting dust.

Went to Ebay to sell a Tour issue (TCFxxx) Epic Flash Sub Zero head. Guy purchases it for the buy it now price. send him the head w the head cover. no problems.

Until I get a message from the buyer stating its not a tour issue head. had a picture of the serial on the listing and explained in detail how to find it and how their the Callaway serial numbers work. (not to mention the lack of a crown graphic)

Buyer still claiming that serial isn't there after I sent other Tour issue listings with the same style serial and even photos of other tour callaway heads of mine with similar style serials

Buyer then opens a request for $100 off since its a "retail head" according to him and I sent a retail head. I go on to explain my background and how I even obtained the head in the first place and why I know what Im talking about.

At this point I just want the guy to send me back the head but worries there's going to be some switcharo in the process of getting it back. Any advice?

Buyer is scheming the ebay system and you to get a partial refund. He's banking on the fact that you'll provide the refund for ease over taking the item back and reselling. I've had a few buyers over the ears do this. Unless it's a legit issue with a small % returned to them (like an adapter being loose and refunding them $25 to go get it fixed locally) I usually say "Okay, pay for the shipping and send it back!" and they usually back off because their scheme isnt working with me.

YMMV on what you want to do. There IS a way to report buyers through the feedback system for 'requesting a partial refund after purchase', btw.

This makes me leery of listing my own Tour Issue club on ebay/.  I have an older  2004/05 Callaway Big Bertha Fusion  4 wood that is Tour Issue, according to Callaway CS.  It has the tour Issue  decal on the shaft with the Tour Issue  serial number.  I will have to  look at the head again  but I don't know if the head has the serial number.  It would be easy for a buyer to remove the decal sticker from the shaft to claim they received a standard GBB Fusion.

Devodude11 is the scamming buyer?

Correct.

Get that sentiment, have had plenty of those shaft serial numbers come off over time on irons and wedges.

Why Callaway thought that shaft decal was a good idea is beyond me....actually, I get it.  Those Tour Issue items  were never intended to hit retail or a selling market, so there was no other reason to mark them differently.

Exact reason I won’t sell on eBay anymore, too many scammers or just ppl using it as their own personal demo program.

I’d rather sell here for less and not deal with the hassle.

I've learned my lesson. Sold plenty of golf clothes and shoes via postmark with 0 issues.

LOL> This guys is a dumbWord not allowed dick and not a scammer. He shouldn't have claims 'Not received' when tracking shows delivered. He's going to lose the dispute and you will have upper hand.

Ask me any questions, I'm a eBay seller for 20 years so I know pretty much all the cases and how it will turn out.

Thanks for all the input. At this point the request is still “open” even after updating the shipping info and sending the guy a message to send the head back. Been radio silent since I asked that

If you allowed return on your listing you can charge restocking fee upto 50% and there's nothing buyer can do about it. Ebay will side with you.

Hopefully you backed him down. Sorry this happened. There’s a reason it’s referred to as FleaBay.
