I fly halfway across the country twice a year to play the Pacific NW courses and Chambers Bay is still my favorite. Nice to see that emerald green, just a few more weeks.

One of my favorite courses. We're going to see some good matches this week.

Been watching this as well. I usually watch WAY MORE women's golf than men anyway. Also first time seeing Chambers Bay, man what a course. Looks awesome.

If you’re a little fatigued of pro golf and all the $$ talk tune in to the women’s Am at Chambers this week.  It’s all about the spirit of competition and not millions of dollars.  Plus it’s one of the best and most beautiful courses in America.  Also it’s open to the public!  Best of luck to the ladies in the competition.

Hoping to get down there to see some golf.  I've a few friends competing.

Wow. Looks like all the top ranked players have fallen. Avery and Kuehn lost in the round of 16. Heck was out in the round of 32.

At the time Player made those comments, he may have been right.  Painted dots to identify the edges of greens, greens that were essentially dead, and IIRC, they were on about the third redo.  I doubt he would have the same sentiment today.

Fairways that meld into greens are the sign of a good course not bad imo.  They were both fescue grass.  Have a look at St Andrews or any of the great links courses, same thing.  Sometimes Gary says some dumb things.  He’s an all time great but not infallible.

15' was strictly on the USGA, they could have had those greens playable, instead chose to go " natural" meaning firm fast and bumpy.

Lot of people quit the USGA over that cluster....  Hopefully this tournament show cases how great the course is. They owe the golf fans of the Pac NW another Major and the sooner the better.

Speaking of which, Bandon is on the Agenda for plenty of USGA action this year and the next few years.

Unfortunately nothing too big . . . I suspect there simply isn't enough ancillary capacity to host a bigger event.

The 10th is such a cool hole. The coffin bunker near the green is brutal.

I worked the course in 2015 at the US Open.  The politics and egos and ideas that transcend the actual golf were at play.     It's really a shame because Tuesday morning after the tournament the place was as green as those photos above.   Amazing what a multi-million dollar irrigation system can do in 24 hours.

Really? Have you actually looked at what has been played at Bandon in the past? The 2020 US Amateur was just played at Bandon Dunes. Outside of the US Opens for both the men and women that could be the biggest event the USGA holds there. The 2006 Curtis Cup was held there. Small event right? The USGA junior AM just took place there recently. The Walker Cup isn't a big event?

Some pretty big USGA events are coming to Bandon going forward unless you think the only important events are the US Opens. Bandon and the local area can not handle the infrastructure and crowds needed for a US Open due to its location..

I’ve played Chambers many times.  I like the browned out conditions.  It’s fun just like Scottish links.  Aside from #12 the fescue greens were good.  They played firm and fast and rolled true.  Sure it wasn’t perfect for the Open but it never is.  The back 9 was one of the best in recent history.

The golf is good and compelling, the commentators are beyond awful.  This a rule X/Y/Z of match play x10000, they are getting in the other players head. Oh she hit it to 20 feet instead of the 18 feet of her playing competitor that means hes playing not to lose the hole despite being an up hill putt vs a downhill. Oh it looked like player X didnt have confidence in the slope there! really? she blocked it two yards, not having zero confidence in a shot.  Its legitimately embarrassing the fake story lines the commentators are trying to create.

Seriously we dont need commentator sound effects when a player is hitting a short putt. Its a disservice to these women.

No disrespect to the existing lineup -- they are terrific events for sure.  But, No, they are not "big" events in the way that the Men's or Women's US Open would draw and the extra facilities and services required to host events of that size.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't want to see them at Bandon, but it simply does not appear in hte cards at this tiime.

Agree, I don’t like them being harshly critical at times, when your dealing with 4 players between 17 & 21 years old.

Honestly I think the coverage does a great service to these women. They get hours and hours of coverage for an event that loses money.  They’re not selling $150 tickets to watch, it’s free.  Plus you have former champions giving knowledgeable tidbits.  I think a disservice would be not broadcasting at all, which would be totally reasonable as the event loses money.

It is amazing how good these young women are.  Another example of how gifted & hardworking a player has to be to perform at these levels.

Well said, and totally agree about the importance of broadcasting the event.  But as I mentioned in my earlier post, there is really no need for them to say that was a poor shot or anything negative on tv, most of the players are kids, they aren’t professionals.
