These irons look so good it makes me uncomfortable

I was browsing my local PGA Tour superstore earlier this week…looking at the same clubs for the umpteenth time when I came across the KM700’s, I’d seen these online and wasn’t a huge fan of the design, prefer the look of the traditional Miura MB…but when you put the KM700 down and look at it from address, oh my - it’s the nicest looking iron/thing I’ve ever seen…I put it down side by side with the Mizuno 221 (which I thought I really liked the look of) and it made the 221 look like something you’d see at Walmart. So I continue looking at the KM700, imagining I’m about to hit a 7 iron from the middle of the fairway and I think to myself, “this is almost too nice looking to hit a ball off the ground with.” I’ve never played something as nice as a Miura…and now that I think about it, I haven’t bought an unused set of irons in about 10 years…so this leads to my question that goes out to any new Miura purchasers, or even just anyone who purchases a set of brand new irons that they love the look of…

 

Do you go through a period where the clubs are just so pristine that you feel uncomfortable hitting them? And if so, how long would you say that period lasted before you stopped giving a s*** and played them without hesitation?

Never. If I spend money on clubs they are gonna get hit.

I hear ya.  You're not alone.  I have a set of 2-E of 1999 Hogan Apex Blades that I bought from a former Hogan Staff member and was only used sparingly since he jumped to Titleist for more money.  They are practically new and I bought them for a steal ($80 CDN) and only played it only once or twice since I didn't want to ruin the pristine finish.  I have since been using more durable cast irons (like my 990s) since then.

They had the MB 101, TC201, KM700, and…maybe one other Miura I can’t remember.

Love the Miura MC-501.  It's like that really sexy girl that you wanna ask out on date but you get horrible anxiety thinking about it, haha.

Honestly when I get something new I can't wait to hit it, use it, and get some bag chatter on there. I take exceptionally good care of my clubs, keep them clean, and always try to limit wear, but I also love the look they start to get from use. That's when they really feel like they are mine. My irons (new last fall) are finally starting to feel a bit more like tools rather than just shiny stuff in the bag, which is really satisfying.

I had the 221 and used the 90 day play policy to get the MC501…. Never looking back….

Didn’t like the km700 personally.. the club head was far too big and rounded at address. I also hit them like 5yds shorter than my gamers. Play Baby blade 2.0s. The KM were nice to look at in the bag though.. sold em after like 2.5 rounds of use

I feel you. There’s both this excitement to smack away but also this trepidation that you’ll somehow destroy them with the first swing.

 

The trepidation usually goes away after the first shank/sky mark. Then I smack away like usual hehe

I picked up that same set a few days ago when I was in there. They're a standout among the new releases. To answer your question; any set that comes home will get played, I just may wait awhile before I hit them out of the bunkers. But you should get them, so next time I go in there, they're not there.

It is really heartbreaking to take a Miura and hit a ball from the sand trap….. it makes me a little sad when ever have to do this…..

Nope. Hammers are also like $25…and to my knowledge there’s no Miura of hammer brands. If there is one, I’d like to check it out - to see if it’d be weird to work with or not.

This thread reminds of this really pretty girl dated for a while. When we first started hanging out I was like there’s no way I can do these dirty, reprehensible acts with this sweet gorgeous young lady. I felt really uncomfortable but what else was I suppose to do, just disappoint her? 
 

The lesson I learned is the same that the OP should realize about the KM-700s. Go ahead and get them dirty because they’re not your irons, it’s just your turn.
