BMW Championship 2022 (*** NO LIV DISCUSSIONS/REFERENCES ***)

Week two of the playoff rolls round at the Tour heads to Wilmington Country Club for the 2022 BMW Championship. The Top 125 have been cut to the Top 70 with only the Top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings punching their ticket to the Tour Championship at East Lake next week. Patrick Cantlay took the honours at the BMW Championship and went on to snag the FedEx Cup last year. There are some big names that will need to go some way to make sure that they make it to Atlanta. Heading into the week the likes of Adam Scott, Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrell Hatton are on the outside looking in whilst names such as Kevin Kisner, Sahith Theegala and Corey Conners will need good weeks to ensure that they make it to next week.

Defending Champion:-

Patrick Cantlay

Notables in the Field:-

Scottie Scheffler

Will Zalatoris

Cameron Smith

Rory McIlroy

Justin Thomas

Tony Finau

Matt Fitzpatrick

Max Homa

Jordan Spieth

Collin Morikawa

Jon Rahm

Xander Schauffele

Course:-

Wilmington Country Club (South Course)

Par 71

7,534 Yards

The Fedex Cup needs an upgrade in courses.  The three in use this year are below average for important events.  Money talks, I guess.

If it weren’t for that prize money, this wouldn’t be  happening.  Think about that for a minute, eh?

Word is after his round last week he got a complimentary massage from new tour masseuses Fat Andy, Frankie Balls, Nickie Glasses and Jimmy "Two Times" (who performs every maneuver twice)

Were these recommendations from Deshaun Watson?

Long course. Gonna need the extra 20 driver yards to compete here so you're hitting 9i instead of 8i.

My favorites for their odds:

Rory 10:1

Rahm 12:1

JT 14:1

Adam Scott 50:1

Keith Mitchell 70:1

Pendrith 75:1

Mullinax 125:1

Wyndham Clark 150:1

List 200:1

List is 250x1 on DK. I like him this week too.

So not to be repetitive, but 7500+ yards is long even for these guys.

If a longer player hits the driver 340 and has 160 in on a 500 yard par 4, how many clubs is he saving on the guy who hits it 300 and has 200 in?

8 iron versus 5 iron? So a 3 club difference? Or more like a 2 club difference?

2 PAR 5s over 600 yards.

"Mr Playoffs" Willy Z is the man to beat in this tournament. He was (perhaps wrongly) denied from participating in playoffs last year, and to get revenge he goes out and wins the whole tournament in his FIRST PLAYOFF APPEARANCE. Some guys just turn it up to 11 in the playoffs. Jordan, Montana, those type of guys. Maybe Willy Z is among those greats.

So with Cam Smith out how does this effect his chances. He’s fourth. With the point difference can he still come back and win in the final?

He's 3rd in the current standings here: https://www.pgatour.com/fedexcup/official-standings.html

Here are the breakdown of points for the top 20 spots:

image.png.52fb76cbda578611a5c2425738083631.png

70th place is <2000 points behind him. So anyone currently in the field will pass him with a win.

22nd place is <1200 points behind him. So anyone in the current top 22 will pass him with a 2nd place finish.

Top 5 in the BMW is 440 points. Anyone 8th or higher can pass him with a 5th finish, and a few others could get there with a 3rd or 4th.

Top 10 is 300 points. Anyone 6th or higher can pass him with a 10th, and a few others could get there in the 6th-8th range.

But essentially it would be nearly impossible for Cam to drop outside the top 10. In 3rd place he would be 3 strokes behind 1st place going into the TC. If he drops anywhere between 6th and 10th place he would be 6 strokes behind 1st place. That's the maximum he could reasonably drop.

So missing the BMW will probably hurt him a little, relative to where he is right now (3 strokes down) it's not enough to knock him completely out of contention.

For a limited field type event, it'd be really cool to see a move to something dramatic like Bandon.

Who has won the FedEx cup tour championship with the lowest starting position? I think you have to be at least at the tenth position with -4 to realistic have a chance.

1st: Starts Tour Championship at -10

2nd: -8

3rd: -7

4th: -6

5th: -5

6th-10th: -4

11th-15th: -3

16th-20th: -2

21st-25th: -1

26th-30th: E

I just think it's stupid that East Lake always hosts the Tour Championship.  There is nothing that special about it that it deserves to host the most prestigious PGA Tour hosted event every single year. Get a 3-4 course rota at least.
