Straightening of the right leg

Appreciate the great advice.

You are welcome. If you skip the sarcasm I lay aside the irony.

From the pictures seen your leg action can gain a great dynamic range in motion. Or emotionally put: your conceptual understanding of rotary motion comes short but sure you can strike ball -no doubt about this here.

The point of the quote is to direct forces of the trail knee (hinge) in line with your toes.

This will create far better vertical positioning of the trail leg (which is way too late for the point where you are at).

The trail ankle is most important to be supportive for the rotary. The trail hip rotates in as the ankle turns out. The force you can feel along the trail foot: rotational pressure where the toes grip and vertical pressure in the heel.  The dominant pressure in your trail foot is vertical. Classic leather spiked shoes were very good letting this happen. I like to practice on fivefinger shoes. When it comes to shoes: manufacturers care more about fashion than function but that's off topic.

To conclude a drill with critical note to Dr Kwon. He shows the step - swing arms drill; one of the oldest drills in the game. Which is very good but from my modest PoV I would like to see that he splits the motion into two sets of drills:

1. walk forward swing arms up & down -> backswing

2. walk backward swing arms down & up -> downswing.

Does anyone have any good drills to not straigthen/lock out the right (trail) leg in the back swing? I tend to straighten it too much, get laid off, and then swipe across it.

I was thinking a down under board between the legs could help. I would just a cutting board.

How is your swing now. Are you able to fix the right leg and prevent it from straightening out?

I have the same problem with right leg straightening out and overswing on the backswing. but it is a habit and so difficult to fix. I think the key is to turn the right foot in, lock in the knee and do thousands of swing while locking your leg and knee in place putting pressure on the inside of the right foot. You have to exaggerate and basically make your right knee and leg stationary through out the backswing. When I do this, I am unable to turn too much and this prevents me from overswinging in the backswing. This is my plan for the next few months. Refrain from just hitting balls aimlessly. Last night I did 200 slow motion swing with this drill.

Since the trail  knee MUST automatically move when your trail hip rotates , any movement to FREEZE the trail knee will also prevent the trail hip and pelvis from moving more than a nominal amount.

Turning the right toe in will also put excessive stress on the knee and if done enough can easily lead to knee injuries .

The correct way to reduce trail knee straightening is via two simple changes

1. make sure the that your trail foot is facing straight -neither toed in or toed out

2. toe out your lead foot 1/4 turn toward the target -this will restrict the amount of pelvis rotation going back and the amount of trail leg straightening

Thanks. I was trying to exaggerate the changes during the drill hoping to get used to the feeling. Since I am doing mostly slow motion right now, there isn't too much stress in the right knee. As I increase the speed slowly, I will keep the right foot straight and not toe in. I will try the lead foot 1/4 turn toward the target. My feet have been pointed square to the target line.
