I have to say that in the past I was always one to give the antics of Reed, Johnson, DeChambeau, Koepka et al, the benefit of the doubt when they were criticized on Golfwrx, but I have come to the conclusion that I was wrong.  What were are seeing here is the formation of nothing less than The League of Extraordinary Douchebags.

Bravo!  Well done sir.

Your honor, exhibit A…

”Was he cheating?”

BK, “Uh yeah”

Case dismissed 🤣

Using this as a rationale  then Cam Smith is a cheater?

I don't think DJ should be included in that group. He was pretty honest in his reasons for leaving, resigned his PGA membership, hasn't been running through the media and podcast circuit trashing the tour or providing asinine justifications for his decision, and he hasn't chased the litigation route. Unless I missed something, DJ took his money and left quietly. I would have preferred he stayed, but can respect how he left.

Yeah he has handled his departure quietly.

There are persistent rumours regarding other players’ wives and drug suspensions which might make some people think that he is a good fit for LIV, dependant on whether they believe the rumours and their views on such matters.

Really good spreading unfounded rumors.

I was thinking "Lawsuits In Vogue" (LIV), but the d-bag angle is more appropriate.

How do you know they are unfounded?

The very nature of the PGA Tour disciplinary process, i.e. not announcing suspensions and what they are for, leads to speculation and whispers, so we have articles like https://www.espn.com.au/golf/story/_/id/11296523/dustin-johnson-suspended-six-months-pga-tour-testing-positive-cocaine-use

I don't really care what DJ does in his free time. He could spend every off week on a yacht in Monte Carlo splitting rails off escorts with his wife if he so chooses. It's his money and his life. Ride that bull until it kicks you. He's under no obligation to live according to my personal ethics. I just like watching him play golf and of the folks that have bailed to LIV, DJ, somewhat counter-intuitively, has handled it with more maturity and professionalism than most.

There was this as well, which you only know is true or not if you are DJ:

image.png.8c52da07677a2464ce0052e3738631b3.png

This may be ancient history to you, but people still bring up Reed's college history as part of his general character profile fitting several of the players who have gone to LIV.

Stuff like allegations of cheating, allegations of stealing other players' stuff -> estrangement from parents -> cheating on camera on the PGA Tour -> departs for LIV -> files comical lawsuit using buffoon lawyer. Paints a picture.

Another player: makes racist comments about Tiger -> spits in cup -> hacks up green -> joins LIV.

Allegations of fake public persona -> gambling debts -> playing hockey during the US Open -> making derogatory comments about new employer -> LIV.

Drugs -> other players' wives -> Liv seems to fit a stereotype, but as you say, it's rumour.

From the same era in the deep past. Long before his marriage. Just because there are bozos on here that like to bash Reed is no justification to lambaste DJ.  And they have no right to call out Reed or anyone.  Unless they are without sin! I am sure in their "deep past" they have had their rules violations that they were penalized for. And I am sure they ALL still buy a large amount of stuff from the most egregious human right violating country on Earth,  the NBA's own love child, China!

well, in PReeds case, it has been multiple instances in the PGA, in addition to the allegations in college.

as for Cam Smith, hitting off that paint didn’t give him any advantage… it really was just a brain fart or misinterpretation on his part.   And he didn’t get away with anything either.

He called him a cheater for cheating – intentionally breaking the rules

That is totally different from dropping in the wrong spot (what Smith) did, or dozens of other ways that you might make an accidental mistake that violates the rules.

In a high school event I mistakenly teed off from the wrong tees – too far back. That’s breaking the rules, but it was an accident. My playing opponents noticed. I thought the rule was to play the ball with a two-stroke penalty; I checked with a coach on the tee box and my playing partners. They all confirmed that was the rule. So I played out the hole and on the next tee I got out my rule book (EVERYONE carried them back then), and looked up the rule. It is a stroke and distance penalty, but you have to re-tee. If you don’t re-tee and you finish the hole your DQd.

So I violated one rule (teed from the wrong area) and then failed to implement the penalty properly (didn’t re-tee, but instead played my original ball) and I was disqualified from a major tournament for it.

But I never cheated.

Oh, and Patrick Reed – definitely a cheater.

@Captian_America  / well  maybe not any more - more like @Captian_Taliban but I  digress....

No one lilkes Brandle  either.  There is literally nothing he could say that would make anyone like you any less than they already don't.  Just embrace it and count your blood money.  Clearly not and never have  been  here to make friends, fans, or followers ... why abandon  that approach now.   Better  player  than I will  ever  be - supremetly confident I smoke you when it  comes to   1) friendships  gained through golf   2) joyful  moments with others  3)  integrity  4) not  getting kicked out of college for under age drinking -  this just  in we  ALL did it and most of us graduated... maybe it  was  a  convenient excuse ....

Good.

Win Lose or Draw the media narrative is out of control lately and 'journalists' need to be put in their place sometimes.

I think DJ has proven himself in winning regular tour events

I don’t mind him and want him to focus on the majors the next few years - I think he could win an Open and I think he would be truly humble and grateful when accepting with no need to mention LIV

The below article was cited in a Washington Post article relating to Patrick Reed's "cheating" lawsuit against Brandel Chamblee and Golf Channel. It's a pretty good summary of Patrick Reed's college career at the University of Georgia and Augusta State and the "problems" he had during his time at each school. The article is dated January 30, 2015.

From the Tobacco Road Blues:

The Villain: Patrick Reed

Washington Post article:

Patrick Reed has feuded with Brandel Chamblee for years. Now there’s a lawsuit.

Thanks, great articles.

It worries me though, when journos say "from sources who prefer to remain anonymous"

Credibility goes out the door. I speak from experience.
