Sounds easy, but in my experience, it's still a tough call by the referee when to start the clock. When I'm out there, I often "practice" timing players so that when the time comes that I have to, I'm ready.

So the player who is out gets 50 seconds from when they reach their ball assuming no distractions preventing play.  Folks need to be working on driver so they are never short stick in the group.  LOL! Thanks for the info.

Carr probably should have waited to get confirmation that Bennett's ball was OB.

 

He is naturally a fader, I was surprised either way he didn't bail right in any case.

Slow play generally in college golf has gotten better over the past decade or so - faster than it used to be.  I give a lot of credit to organizations like AJGA where they stress and enforce time allotments and first in head to the next tee.  Like I said, most college players these days tend to play at an acceptable rate of speed.  True some are still slow.

 

For those getting to the final match of the US Am I certainly understand their desire to be fully ready/committed to decision/shot before pulling the trigger.  I didn't find this year's match to be distractingly slow.  I would also add that if a player thinks they are being "gamed" by their competitors slow play - they need to be more mentally tough.  That is a part of the deal and if they let it bother them/or think they are being gamed, they need to let it go and show the competitor it doesn't matter.  Same applies to giving putts.  One needs to always think they will always need to hole the next putt and not expect it to be given.
