Broke 70 for the first time

It was a tuesday afternoon,  online tee sheet looked wide open as it should be, so I booked a tee time.  I get there and find out I'm in the first group after middle school tryouts.  It was gonna be slow.  A couple people went in and got rain checks, after watching the kids navigate number one.  "I don't have time for a 6 hour round"

 

Anyway, an hour in, I three jacked the second, I hadn't adjusted to the green speeds yet and it was a down hill 30 footer.  No biggie I had already wrote off this round.  On to the third,  I wait for the fairway to clear, and rip a 5 wood down the middle.  I hear "Hey were teeing off here."  Oops, apparently I was so locked in that I didn't see the group ahead of us on the forward tees.   In my defense they were way off to the side behind trees.

 

At this point, it started to pick up, and wasn't that bad.  It still didn't stop anyone from bitching about it.  Hoping they were only playing nine holes I pressed on.  Shot even on the front, despite dying of thirst, since I forgot my water bottle.

 

They did quit after nine, I picked up 5 waters, and we played the back in just over an hour.   After birding 9,10, and 11 I knew where I was.  However, I was so relieved that we were finally moving, I wasn't thinking about breaking 70, and avoided my usual meldown.

 

In summary, I was a little wild off the tee but stayed out of trouble.  The course is pretty open.  A lot of par 4's were a wedge in, and I stuck a couple close.  There were 2 reachable par 5's that I took advantage of.  I shot a 67 with 6 birdies.

Congratulations!  This is still my goal. I have carded 70 four times but have not gotten it done. Maybe now that I'm 70, I can shoot my age.

Same here.  Four career rounds at 70 - always a bridesmaid.   

I'm not anywhere near 70, however.

This was my key the first time I did it. I knew I had a good round going but I wasn't keeping score. I had a buddy who almost upset the universe when he asked if I knew where I stood and I told him to keep it to himself. 

 

In other good rounds I knew exactly what my score was in relation to par and made club selections accordingly, but that first time I needed to keep my tiny brain clear of clutter.

Nice. Every sub 70 round I've had, I one putted like a mad man. I just kept making birdie putts.

Congrats!  Breaking 70 is my goal as well.  Really hoping to get it this year but running out of time.  

71 is my lowest thus far.  Similar to your round, 5-6 birds is my aim to get it done.  The few times I’ve managed it in the past few months I’ve sprinkled in a couple of doubles.  Not sure what irks me more, having a hot round and turning it into 74 with a dub or two or playing super consistent, shooting 74 with all pars and 2 boges but burning edges on birdie putts.

 

Been a fun pursuit.  Didn’t think it was possible a few years ago and know it will happen soon now.  Congrats again on the accomplishment!
