Ariya near the top of the leaderboard? More surprising than Danielle's round.

Is Sophia becoming the next Pernilla? She's on her way to missing her 11th cut of the season. Only one top 10.

I have a friend in the field for this event.  She played in the European swing and is still waiting for her clubs to land stateside.  Fingers crossed for her!

Keeping fingers crossed seems to be working!  Lost clubs and all and she has the top spot.

If you need a grinder to make your weld look good, you are a grinder not a welder.

Scoring conditions looked almost perfect this morning. What did they do for the afternoon wave? Water the greens? Lol. Wow. Don't recall seeing such low afternoon scores in benign conditions compared to the morning groups.

They were mentioning Anna Davis on the broadcast, I will say I don't like the Augusta event due to the rewards, I think it gives too many entries in to the pro game, plus she was given some exemption in Cali on top.  She played well but too much for an AM IMO.

I look at Brooke at 16 she got exemption into the Chevron and a Canadian event and qualified for the US Open.  The events were spread out and she made the cut in all 3 and finished 10th at the US Open.  She played a heavy Am Sked though being a finalist at the US Am and winning the Individual at the team world event, I believe.

Just my opinion but I think dipping your toe in pro events is fine but at this age I think you are better off beating up on your peers

Wait, weren't you the one who called Anna a "phenom"

As mentioned with the rain the greens are relatively receptive.  Rough is thick but not that long. Weather today was perfect with a fairly light breeze (although it was from a strange direction for around here). Supposed to get more showers tonight and tomorrow, but then the weekend looks perfect.

I followed Lauren Zaretsky (up and coming Canadian am) who had a nice day at -3.  She played with Pauline Roussin who had a really nice day at -5. Both hit it pretty far. Roussin showed some real sweet mitts on a few delicate shots around the greens.

My daily "you are an idiot" move: I followed this group the whole round, except I decided to hang at the 4th green (their 13th) and watch a few others I knew instead of making the walk back to watch them play the par 3 5th as the 6th hole comes right back by the 4th green.  Yep, I missed Lauren's ace on the 5th 🤦‍♂️

Caught Brooke's group (Lydia Ko and Kupcho) for their 8th and 9th holes. Crowds were huge, but they did the Tiger crowd thing where everyone would dash off to the next tee as soon as Brooke was done putting without any regard for the other two.  Jennifer did not look impressed with the commotion.

Some more observations:

Ariya is a very emotional player. Club slam for an iron shot pushed right, and another for what appeared to be a perfectly good drive with her 3 wood. On 2 occasions she sat down on her own on the far side of the tee box for a minute or two with head down, maybe gathering herself? She was very pleasant with her playing partners, applauding good shots and made putts.

In terms of reading putts, Ariya's caddie had a lot of involvement, doing the Aim Point line straddle and giving her input on many putts. Gaby Lopez's caddie did the down on the ground Spider Man thing and then would tap at the hole (how far left or right) to show her where to aim. Ayaka Furue's caddie did help with green reads on a few occasions. The other 3 players seemed to do all green reading on their own.

As byrxa mentioned, the crowd around Brooke was just stupid big. The hole ahead and the hole behind were also jammed, as spectators were trying to get into position early and there was so many people all of them couldn't clear off in time. The Thitikul-Furue-Lopez group I was with in the afternoon was 2 groups back and there was still fans filtering off holes that had narrow access points. I can't imagine Sunday if she is in contention how busy it would be.

So rain started at 6:30AM and is forecast to be steady all day with chance of thunderstorms. I'm not sure how much play they will get in.

Has it really been 10 years since Lydia won the event as an amateur? Wow. I'm getting old. Lol.

Nice 2 days by Maddie Szeryk, top Canadian so far. Rebecca Lee-Bentham playing good as well, hopefully can finish strong tomorrow morning.  Lauren Zaretsky righted the ship and finished -3 overall to make the cut - I will follow her tomorrow (she is friends with my daughter).  Crazy that Roussin in that group got an ace on 8 today - 2 aces by that group over the 2 days!

Nothing but a lot of pars for Yealimi Noh today; but she avoided her tenth miss cuts of the season.

She'll play the weekend without a teammate for the first time since Meijer Classic more than two months ago.

More importantly no bogeys!

But 0 birds on par 5 is no good.

hope she is paired tomorrow  with Jeeno and Lucy who are both at -6.

J Y Ko another missed cut. Yikes!

Annie was at -3 but imploded on the back 9, bogeys on 5 of 6 holes to finish 100th+ yet again, at least she will have better priority next year vs this year

Maddie Szeryk a nice bogey free 2 days.

J. Ko's mental state is not in the best place.

It appears she may be burnt out and has even mentioned in passing about retirement (but not exactly about retiring now).

I hope my interpretation is completely wrong!

Hye Jin doesn't look like she's ready to give up the rookie of the year race just yet.

Kelly Tan, who's been in good form in 2022, finished her second round this morning.  She shot -3 and was -1 for the tournament; she missed the cut by one shot.

Su Oh also shot -3 and missed by one.  Su, like Yealimi Noh, has a forgettable 2022; has now missed her last six consecutive cuts.

The struggles of Sung Hyun Park continue. She has started posting good first round scores recently, then seems to lose confidence and go over par again. Same here - starts with -4 then posts +4 and misses the cut yet again.

As I understand it this is all mental - apart from some injury issues. She seems very intense and introverted as a personality, not somebody to laugh off troubles. Additionally she may feel lonely in the USA, don't now what kind of social circle she has.

Could Lindy Duncan, Lydia Ko's BFF, be the Cinderella story of 2022?

Not if Na Rin has anything to say about it. As a rookie she's been (rightfully) overshadowed by Atthaya and Hye Jin, but she's got a solid resume, and she did manage to win Q Series.

    • In-hand photos of 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus, Stealth 2, Stealth 2 HD drivers + fairways woods
Check out our front page launch stories here and here.

What you need to know: For the first time, carbon is the most prevalent material by volume in a TaylorMade driver, and more carbon equals better performance, says the company. Last year, TaylorMade debuted a 60X Carbon Twist Face. With TaylorMade Stealth 2, engineers are bringing carbon to more of the golf club — and unveiling a new-and-improved Carbon Twist Face in the process. Stealth 2 Plus (low spin, most workable) Stealth 2, and Stealth 2 HD (draw bias, high launch, most forgiving) drivers make up the Stealth 2 family.

      Stealth 2 HD

What you need to know: Breakthrough movable weight technologies and versatile designs are the hallmarks of the 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway woods. Stealth 2 Plus is branded as “three fairway woods in one” owing to the unique performance characteristics afforded by the 50-gram sole weight. Stealth 2 features a slightly lower profile 3D carbon crown than Stealth. This moves CG down and away from the toe with more weight in the rear of the club for higher launch and MOI. Ultra-high MOI Stealth 2 HD features an oversized 200cc head and low-profile sole, creating an easy-to-hit, draw-biased club.
