Course Recommendations in Richmond, VA Area.

Hi all, I'm looking for some recommendations in the Richmond, VA area. My dad and I are meeting up for 3 days of Golf in Richmond (traveling 95 from different directions to meet up) at the end of September. We are staying in the city in an Airbnb so food and brewery recommendations are welcome as well. Looks like a number of solid courses in the area so we are open to suggestions. The one course we already have penciled in is Royal New Kent. Looking for two others to round out the trip!

If one of you is a member of a private club, you should try Kinloch if you are not opposed to the unaccompanied fee $300+ + caddie fee).  Additionally, Independence Golf Club and Spring Creek (30 minutes west are good bets).  For breweries, the Veil is a can’t miss (probably one of the best breweries in the Country) with Triple Crossing, the Answer Brew Pub, and Hardywood rounding out the tap.

 

Ironically, your public golf options would be better in the Charlottesville or Williamsburg areas.

RNK, Independence, Spring Creek, Magnolia Green, Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe and Birdwood are all within an hour and a half and are the best public options in my opinion

For an interesting round try Belmont in Richmond. I believe its now owned by the city park system so it's not a luxurious layout.  The reason I suggest it is they played the 1949 PGA Championship there (S. Snead).  It was interesting to see the length (or lack of) course that they played back in the day.  The pros today might not need driver at all.  Nonetheless some of the holes have a character that doesn't require length. You do however get to play a piece of history for a moderate price.   

 

For a great selection of courses go down Interstate 64 about 45 minutes to Williamsburg.  Many nice options there.
