Outer Banks recommendation

Heading to OBX in about a month for 10 day trip. Second half we will be staying right on the Currituck Club,

so i’ll be getting a couple rounds in there... Looking for one place to play earlier in the trip, almost a warmup round.

 

Have played Nags Head Links several times and probably going to skip it this year. Looking at Kilmarlic, The Pointe or the Carolina Club as potential options. I’m looking for somewhere that isn’t going to beat you up too bad, but that is fun to play. I’m a 1, but would like to have a round down there where I can drink some adult beverages and maybe spray a couple without too much disaster!

 

Any advice or info on experiences with those is greatly appreciated!!

The Carolina Club may be a good choice for you. I've enjoyed playing there.  Some room off the tee, the design is good and a decent clubhouse.

Kilmarlic is the best of the bunch, but Carolina Club is fun to play, too.  The Pointe is fine, but is a pretty plain/easy design.  Kilmarlic offers plenty of scoring opportunities along with plenty of danger.  It's usually in good shape and the bar/restaurant is good.

Thanks for the info! From the aerials the Pointe does look fairly benign. Looks like i’ll narrow it down to C.C. or Kilmarlic, probably leaning towards the latter to save a half hour on the round trip.

As a follow up, I ended up playing The Pointe due to timing and availability. Got paired with 2 good guys which is always a plus!

 

Wasn’t too bad out there! A few holes that were relatively challenging, but for the most part there was plenty of room to miss in at least 1 direction. Conditions were solid, easily as good as Nags Head or Currituck have been in years past. Rough was basically like a first cut the whole way around, so not really penal, but because its bermuda you have to think about it a little bit. Greens a hair on the slower side, but that seems to be the norm in the area.

 

Overall, got what I was looking for out of the round. Made me focus enough but was able to get away with some rusty swings here and there. I’d play it again for sure!
