Ping Alta CB Slate Iron Shafts

If anyone has experience with these shafts i would be interested in hearing your opinions on whether they play true to their stated flexs. This old man is looking to make the swap too graphite. LOL. Any help would be appreciated.

I have them in my 6-UW set of g425 irons. I usually hit the ball 220-245 off the tee and my usual yardage for 7i is 140 carry for reference. 

I play them in R flex.  They seem to fit my swing speed well.  Not firm feeling at all. If anything I’d say true to flex. Maybe a hint softer to flex.  Very smooth feeling shaft. I switched to graphite with this set as when I go to the range alot I tend to get thumb /wrist tendonitis.  The graphite seems to help with that.

Recently hit this in Stiff compared to AWT 2.0 Steel in Stiff and Regular. 

 

I would say the Alta CB Iron Stiff was every bit as Stiff feeling as the AWT 2.0 Stiff, maybe "slightly" softer. Numbers were true to theory in that the Alto CB was giving a few more MPHs in swing speed which equated to more ball speed and distance. My swing speed was 80 mph with the 7i and the fitter said I could basically go with stiff or regular in either. I only hit the regular AWT, I did not hit the regular alta CB. I never felt like I was or could over power the Alta CB in Stiff, it was plenty stiff for my swing.

 

I was really impressed with the Alta CB Iron shaft. For my swing, I still preferred the heavier feel of the steel shaft, however, I would have no problems playing the Alta CB. Still makes my wonder to this day if I shouldn't just make the leap to graphite iron shafts.

Note that the Alta CB Slate shafts are counterbalanced, meaning more weight is back towards butt. Also, the longer iron shafts will be somewhat lighter than the short-iron shafts. This gives a little extra help with clubhead speed and launch at the long end, and lessens chances of ballooning at short end.

 

Weight: Soft R = 65 grams, high launch / R = 72 grams, mid-hi launch / S = 82 grams, mid-launch

   (Note: weights are of shaft trimmed for 7i)

 

This same counterbalancing is in the AWT 2.0 steel shafts common for Ping.
