Did anybody know Jin Young have a wrist injury?  That can be nasty!

She injured her wrist last year but toughed it out during the Tour Championship. Our buddy Kborg and his clairvoyance was bold to predict it could be career threatening and she may never be the same again.

Y’all doing serious analysis of the tourney favorites put me to shame

i always just pick my favs.

Oh, and Maria Fassi. 🙂

I will pick my favorites too , but only pick Annie if she is teeing it up in Cali or NJ. Familiarity is key!

I spent several decades looping on this tour.  Since I retired from a full time gig in 2017, I would hardly call it "current inside knowledge" but I know these courses and most of the players very, very well.  That leads to some deeper analysis.

Who have you worked for on the LPGA tour?

Out of respect for privacy, I don't divulge those names.  Some of the forum members have figured a few out from my stories over the years, but those are inferred not named specifically.

My first tour loop was in 1979 and I haven't done a one-off since early 2020.  Lots of faces and names have changed over the years, along with the game itself.

It was a 72 hole most years, they had the cut 36 and then another 54, it was a very stupid gimmick IMO.  I remember many years ago, Brooke missed the 54 cut and I don't think she's been back since, so maybe they got rid of it.

You may be thinking of a different event. The NW Arkansas event has always been 54 holes except the first year when only 18 holes were played due to rain.

J. Ko had the same wrist injury in mid 2021 and she had to rest it. Also she couldn't practice as much.

Then she had that amazing run at the end of 2021. She won the CME Group Tour Championship without hitting practice balls.

I wonder if surgery is on the card since the injury was reoccurred.

Wasn't it the VoA in Texas that had a 2nd cut?

Edit: Yeah, I guessed correctly. They had a 2nd cut from the tournament's inception in 2013 through 2017. In 2018 the event was cut short to 36 holes due to weather, and in 2019 they went to a single cut.

Didn’t this event use to be one the ladies really likes?

Yes, this used to be a one of the favorites.  The Portland area used to be really nice, but in the last 2 years, it has seen a rapid decline and with the CME Globe events coming up, most of the top talent are taking a break.

Both Su Oh and Patty Tavatanakit are +6 after one round; Su hit only 9 greens and Patty hit only 5 fairways.

Both are long shots to make the cut and Su's CME position is precariously dangerous.

I'm going to start calling her Pernilla T until she turns it around

But I can sense she is going through some mental issues. She broke down in tears when making the cut in Europe, still reeling at the moment but her pedigree is still strong.

Su Oh was -3 to start and off the cliff she went.

Nelly's "Approach to Green" was on fire today; but her errant tee shots costed her four shots today.

She still has three more rounds to catch the leaders!

It looked like she was using a new driver shaft (GD AD UB)...maybe even using a TSR?  Maybe she's still getting acclimated to the new shaft/driver combo?

Even though some folks might say “weak field”...

These late-season scrambles by folks in the 100’s , trying to keep their LPGA Tour card for next season, adds a frisson of intrigue/ people you can cheer for?

Lots of these below-the-100-bubble-line making moves into this week’s Top10?

Great recall/find. I found that info last night about what event Stooch was talking about. Hadn't had the chance to post it. Thanks.

@iBanesto Thanks ... by "JY Ko's fragile mental state" ... guess you're referring to the segment circa timestamp 6m30s? (she talks about being mentally exhausted after a series of tournaments, pre-Evian.... various anxieties & getting extreme highs/lows from hitting good/bad golf shots ... finding golf a bit boring? etc)

The setting (a cake celebration with her sponsor Bridgestone) seemed a bit odd w.r.t. JYK's confessional (but maybe "better out that keeping it festering inside?"🏃‍♀️💨)

Perhaps JYK is feeling lonely/ burnt out from the 'grind' being on tour? Hence the reason many of these folks retire around 30y.o. after a decade on tour?

She has been using the TSi1 so be interested to see if she has changed to the TSR given the “1” isn’t announced yet.  I play the TS1 so have an interest in seeing the new clubs.  Always enjoy watching Nelly drive the ball.  Total commitment.

Surprising round by Ayako. Where has she been all year? Injury? She played at the Dana two weeks ago, and it was her first tournament of the year. Prior to that she hadn't played since the Marathon in July '21.

    • In-hand photos of 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus, Stealth 2, Stealth 2 HD drivers + fairways woods
Check out our front page launch stories here and here.

What you need to know: For the first time, carbon is the most prevalent material by volume in a TaylorMade driver, and more carbon equals better performance, says the company. Last year, TaylorMade debuted a 60X Carbon Twist Face. With TaylorMade Stealth 2, engineers are bringing carbon to more of the golf club — and unveiling a new-and-improved Carbon Twist Face in the process. Stealth 2 Plus (low spin, most workable) Stealth 2, and Stealth 2 HD (draw bias, high launch, most forgiving) drivers make up the Stealth 2 family.

      Stealth 2

      Stealth 2 Plus

      Stealth 2 HD

What you need to know: Breakthrough movable weight technologies and versatile designs are the hallmarks of the 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway woods. Stealth 2 Plus is branded as “three fairway woods in one” owing to the unique performance characteristics afforded by the 50-gram sole weight. Stealth 2 features a slightly lower profile 3D carbon crown than Stealth. This moves CG down and away from the toe with more weight in the rear of the club for higher launch and MOI. Ultra-high MOI Stealth 2 HD features an oversized 200cc head and low-profile sole, creating an easy-to-hit, draw-biased club.
