24 hours to hit a hole in one from 125 yards - $10 million if you do, but 1 year in jail if you don't...

Saw this on Instagram (credit to golfdouchebag).  You have 24 hours to hit a hole-in-one on a 125 yard par 3.  You get unlimited shots.  If you succeed you get $10 million.  If you fail, you are going to jail for a year.  

Are you doing it?

 

A lot of people replied that it's a no-brainer take the money kind of thing.  But in reality, that could be the longest day of your life.  What if you get the sh**ks?

Zero chance i'd do it. Odds of a hole in one are 12500 to 1 or so. I am far , far , far better than most of you jabronis. However even if you say 7500 to 1 --That's still a shot every what, 11 seconds?

 

A year in prison regardless of what it's for is a criminal record, so i'd lose my job. I'd far rather have my job that i do, than a coin flip essentially for 10M or basically working customer service the rest of my life.

 

It's really not even a discussion.

 

Honestly to consider it , it'd probably have to be 100M+

On a serious note, I wouldn't want to take that on.  125y is outside of the comfort range.  And considering it's about 25 yrs since my last HIO, the odds are that it wouldn't happen.

125 yards is a perfect, bang-on pitching wedge for me, swung a little harder than normal.

I can't make that swing for 24 straight hours. No way! I'd be dead after about 300 balls. Lots of YouTube videos of DP guys taking 500 balls to hit an ace... guess how many of them did?

I’d do it if it was one of those nice executive white collar prisons with golf sims for exercise.
 

Our range has small greens and flags every 25 yards. Usually I can hit the 125 yard flag within 15 minutes or so. IMO shots at this distance are similar to putts to some extent, in that you can zero in on the target line and swing speed pretty quickly. Also use a 9 iron to let the ball roll out. Most of the UTuber’s are using wedges with zero roll, which makes it wildly more difficult.

or one of those Nordic or Oceanic learning prisons where you learn a skill(s) while there vs just sitting in your cell I'll do it. But if it's like Arizona's Tent City prison then no way in hell I'm doing it.

I feel like actual odds more like 2000/2500 to 1. Exact same flip wedge over and over again…I’m making that at some point and as long as someone is there to remove other balls from the green, I don’t think it would take me 24 hours.

If I made a Hole-in-One...

 

-- Upgrade my current address & owe $0 on the mortgage

-- Upgrade my current vehicle & owe $0

-- Never have to question the value of my membership dues ever again.

-- Early retirement (possibly immediate)

-- Huge upgrade in quality of life

-- Increased focus on health

-- Daily routine of leisure stuff: golf, exercise, etc. 

 

If I were to miss...

 

-- Spend 1 year not golfing (very do-able)

-- Spend 1 year dieting / exercising (definitely a good thing)

-- Spend 1 year studying for professional S.E. certification exam (a net gain on my resume)

-- Spend 1 year not worrying about actual work (pretty good)

-- Emerge healthier, more well-read

-- Emerge with a better resume on the hunt for a job (instant pay raise!)

 

 

So whether I make the hole-in-one or not, both alternatives could lead to great outcomes.

I would pass, while the yardage is a comfortable yardage for me, it's just too much against me. It would get some consideration from me if fatigue wasn't a factor, I wouldn't get injured, you wouldn't get a criminal record, and it was a nice prison.
