24 hours to hit a hole in one from 125 yards - $10 million if you do, but 1 year in jail if you don't...

If it’s the prison that our good ole convicts that are insider trading and heading ponzi schemes and where our elected officials would go, then yes I would. Be playing cards all day and all night having filet and lobster tail for dinner.  I would have about 1000 chances at it which is worth a 10 million haul. Now if we are talking Rikers island, Folsom state prison or San Quentin I would say hell to the No. With my good looks, I’d easily be a target and some inmates girlfriend by the end of that year😂😂😂😂😂😂

@CVP... just a thought.  Any chance you can check with Top Tracer to see how their holes-in-one happen?  Do they allow one every 12,500 shots?  As in real life.  Do they allow one in 7000 if your ball is close to the hole?  Do bells and whistles go off when you make one?

Just curious.  It's like Vegas, they set the slot machines to pay off every so many pulls.

Easy 48* wedge. 24 hours. I like my chances. Sign me up. As long as it's "tax-free".

Let's establish a golf wrx meet up challenge in this spirit. Utilize a driving range with tee areas equidistant from 125y target. We put up $1000each into the pot to compete, and first one to hole it takes the pot. Thinking it could be 100 players and HIO for $100,000.

So you'd rather have nothing than $10,000,00 if you had to pay taxes?

Tour pros hole out about once every 100 rounds from 75 yards or more. That's a knowable stat.

Figure they have, on average 16 attempts from 75+ yards per round, so that would mean they hole out about once every 1600 shots -- but that's from ALL distances.

Figure they average 2 shots per round from 120 to 130 and also figure they are more likely to hole out from 125ish than they are from longer than that, so their odds of holing out from 125 would be GREATER than from 75+ yards (which includes all hole-outs from all yardages) and my guess is that they hole once every 500 shots from that distance? But that's just an educated guess.

Send that info to the OP so he can pay you the $10 million.  Assuming your round was less than 24 hours, but there are those courses and slow play...

You made the hole-in-one with the best of intentions.  I'd still count it if it fits all the other criteria.

I've taken some stupid bets and chances in my life, but will pass on that one.

I have been playing for 30+ years, and would bet I par most Par 3's.  But, only 1 Hole-In-One over all those years, 8i into a difficult 165yd par 3.  I have been really close many times, including last week 1" from the cup on 175yd par 3.

I was inside 6 inches on a 123 yard par 3 yesterday morning.  Still wouldn't take the bet.

Well Sunday morning's session was not that successful. Another 2 hours, roughly 240 balls, closest 1 foot 6 inches. I blame pilates the day before - don't laugh, it's going to be good for my core but only on class #2 I struggle right now.

What did I find? Well

1) At 7:30 never under-estimate the restorative power of a bacon sandwich -breakfast of champions, and

2) at the end of 2 hours I'm hitting some rubbish shots, so the fatigue of doing this for 24 hours as per the original question would be huge

4 hours into the challenge, only 20 to go before I get fitted for my virtual jumpsuit. On the positive side I occasionally appear to be very useful with a s***k so I've got that going for me 🙂

I came across this post a few days ago and it got me thinking.  My first thought was yes, I’d take it on for the chance to win $10MM. 125 yards and unlimited shots in 24 hours sounds doable.  I work from home and it was a slow day so I started up my golf simulator.  The launch monitor is a Foresight GC2 running FSX software.  I told Alexa to start me a 24 hour timer.

I picked a random par 3, hole 8 of Teton Pines at 125 yards with a center pin location.

It took me 3 sessions before I made the hole in one.

The first session was about an hour long. I was hitting a full gap wedge hitting the green but didn’t get anything within a foot.  The high wedge into the flat green would one bounce and stop.  By the end of the session, 80 shots,  I was losing focus and hitting more bad shots than good ones.

A few hours later I made another attempt.  This time I was hitting ¾ 9 irons with an open face attempting to land the ball on the front of the green landing with a soft cut and roll toward the hole.  My proximity was getting much closer but after 50 or so shots I was still without the HIO.

Before going to bed I figured I would mess around and hit a half 7 iron which gave me enough carry (100 yards) to hit the front of the green and roll out to the cup.  I found this shot to be most effective while requiring the least amount of energy and focus.  I was getting close looks at the pin right away with this approach.  On the 29th shot the ball hit the front of the green, got a good kick forward and went in the hole.  I looked at my timer and made it in just under 7.5 hours.

I know the sim isn’t real life but it was fun to attempt.  In the 5+ years I’ve had my simulator I’ve only had 1 other hole in one on it.

This is fantastic and sounds like it was a lot of fun.

Very nice! I think getting it rolling might be the key to it all. If it's rolling to or past the cup at least you've taken 1 variable out of play, within reason. On so many of the challenges you see the accuracy is spot on, but might be a little long or a little short. Or they're pin high but off anywhere from a couple inches to feet. Get a shot that rolls beyond the cup and at least you've got a chance if you're somewhat online. Some sort of punch or flighted shot could do it.

Not sure I'd actually take the bet, but with a slightly elevated tee to see results, I'd love to give it a try.

I think while some posters are experimenting virtually with the hole-in-one side of this debate--Others should try experimenting with the prison side of this debate

Do we have a WRX'er willing to self confine and get into a lot of fights for like 3-4 months?

A year in prison regardless of what it's for is a criminal record, so i'd lose my job. I'd far rather have my job that i do, than a coin flip essentially for 10M or basically working customer service the rest of my life.

I'm confused as to what is the criminal record you would get from this?    I get the bet, a year in jail, but its not like you are actually committing a crime.

being in jail is not on your criminal record.  Being convicted of a felony is.

I mean obviously it's a fictional situation but my understanding was if you failed to make the hole in one, you'd have to commit a crime right after

Like when George was with the Van Buren Boys in Seinfeld, like "hey mang, you gotta rob the next person that walks by"
