Saw a brand new driver blow up....adapter/shaft blowup. For everyone who got feelings hurt, not the head....

Lord Helmet

Recommended Posts

On range before my round.  Guy next to me hitting was all lively and giddy over his new driver, the TM stealth.  Said he just got it Friday.  We casually chatted - told him I loved my Sim Max, etc...So he proceeds to warm up then off comes the headcover of the big stick.  Tees one up, swings, and off goes the head - shaft blew up right at the adapter.  He was livid.  I would be too.  He then went to the 1st T box with his group - minus a driver.  Ouch.

Im sure TM or wherever he got it will make it right, but that would suck lol.

So, it was a shaft issue not the driver head!  Could have happened with any driver.

  • Lord Helmet changed the title to Saw a brand new driver blow up....adapter/shaft blowup. For everyone who got feelings hurt, not the head....

I had this happen to me in June. First shot of a guys trip my 3W shaft exploded inside the adapter. It happens unfortunately.

Was it a velocore tr shaft 🤣

Haha it was not. It was an OG Ventus Black 7X.  It was incredibly strange to feel the club make contact with the ball then everything got incredibly light feeling as I watched the head fly about 30y.

Thats a perfect length and tipping for a Callaway UW 21*

I was lucky enough to get it replaced with a new Ventus Black TR or I most likely would have repurposed it for something else.

What shaft was it? The black and red "Ventus?"

Ya know I didnt really pay attention but now that I am thinking about it yes I do believe it was the black and red stock Ventus TM offering.  Been known issues with them or something?  I havent paid attention to be honest.

It's the weirdest and honestly a very scary feeling.

I've had this happen like twice during a fitting, universal adapter came loose from shaft. Driver head flew forward into projector screen and I had the wildest aborted follow through ever.

Then you wonder why you can not make any more orders for the Stealth drivers as everyone keeps saying its because they are getting ready to launch the new Stealth 2 line-up, or is it because they are so booked up filling out warranty issues. Why hasn't anyone else jumped on the band wagon with the carbon face drivers, Callaway I know did a few years back but didn't see it being very profitable.

A shaft failure has nothing to do with the material used to make the face.

Yeah I know but why does everyone like to bring up the failure rate of the Stealth line. Well maybe its because people have shared many photo's of the face defecting as it's not something people are making up. I would like to know how many other big name brands have had this shaft failure with the Fuji TR line beside TM. Regardless of the shaft or face defect look for the next Stealth 2 to have more than 60 layers of carbon and the way the weight is distributed in the head will change for faster ball speed longer distance when the change will help prevent shafts from breaking as the Stealth line in their drivers was rushed. Has there been any other shaft defects in their fairway woods. Just asking or has it only been in their drivers?

Not everyone.  Actually it's really a small minority - it's just a very vocal minority.    Can only guess at why- but probably because of some inner need to right some injustice done to them.

Not keeping any stats but I do know just from reading the threads here that the ventus complaints are not limited to TM clubs by any means.

I don't know - but heel hits are always going to be harder on the shaft for drivers than for fairways because the larger face allows for a much higher torsional stress.

Not following you here but I don't believe there can really be any connection between the two.

I was just asking what other brands has the shaft broke off on. I would like to think there is no connection as it's not good especially with the price of everything skyrocketing
