2023 Titleist ProV1 Line Prototypes

CPGolf14

Recommended Posts

About a month and a half ago, Titleist sent an email looking for ball testers. I'm assuming I was not chosen, as I have yet to receive any. Has anyone heard any news on the new line yet? I thought the pros are usually putting them in play or testing around this time, but I haven't seen any new models on the PGA Conforming list yet.

No but it will be interesting to see what direction they go.  It caused a lot of confusion when the X and regular sort of switched roles.  I like the current X but it took me a year to figure out that in this generation it fit me better when before it didn't.  Kind of hoping they don't change much.

Yeah, that certainly was confusing and I think Titleist sold that change as "it was always that way, just not the public perception."

I don't think we'll see any changes of that nature in the new line, but I'm very curious to see if they will drop the AVX and add the left dot to the retail line as the lowest launch/spin ball, or we'll see some of the tech from left dot work it's way into the V/X

Titleist usually starts tour seeding of their new Pro V1's at the Shriner's Hospital tournament in Las Vegas.  So, we'll see. 🤞

would love to see the left dot be in reg production, just seems like a super golf, the avx with more green spin.  of course I know its a little harder then the avx

I am always looking to reduce launch/spin, so I usually game V. Earlier in the year, I experimented with left dash, just to try a higher compression ball and see if it spun less than V. I honestly liked the sounds and feel of the left dash a lot, but ended up going back to Pro V because I found it spun less. I’ll be really excited if we get a higher compression left dot, but lower launch and spin than standard V.

You've got it backwards. Current Pro V1 has 388 dimples and the current Pro V1x has 348 dimples. Seems like they didn't change those numbers at all for next years model.

FWIW the "left dot" had 352 dimples...

I did a TSR driver/wood fitting last week... the rep mentioned I might want to try the AVX for its lower flight so I used the opportunity to ask him about the left dot.  He said his understanding is that there isn't enough of a market to justify the left dot as a full product line, so it will remain a CPO item with limited availability.

If they could make a ProV1 perform like a BXS, I'd be all in.

And if the cover stood up just a bit better than the current BXS I’d never consider playing another ball.

It’s more depth of dimples… deeper dimples have less drag/lift.

Really? Wouldn't it be the opposite? Not trash talking you here, genuinely asking about the logic. Seems like the deeper the dimples, the more air it would catch, and the higher the drag/lift would be. But numbers could prove me completely wrong.

Deeper dimples trip the laminar flow earlier, meaning less suction (drag) on the back of the ball.

You are correct in that the deep dimples create more turbulent air at the front of the ball, but with a smooth ball the vortex at the back is essentially a drag parachute… here is a picture of it too. The deeper dimples create more separation in the front, but the overall effect is less turbulence in back, But it is a trade off drag and lift are opposed.  Too deep of dimples and the ball would fall from the sky.11147BC9-1770-4601-8F23-8FA7A14125BC.jpeg.a84836a7f31de86eb5c3b7a61c9e6e8e.jpeg

as an aside, wings have vortex generators that purposely trip airflow to turbulent air as well.

I have been playing DASH ProV1x for some time.  Just got back from a golf vacation where most days the winds were 2-4 clubs worth.  DASH performed fine in the wind, better than AVX.  I am concerned DASH won't make the cut.

Titleist recently released the RCT version of the left dash, which would be an odd thing to do if they were planning on cutting it out of the line up for 2023.  Not saying it won't happen, but I think it is more likely they are keeping the left dash for a while, but since it is less popular than the other versions they are not giving it that much time on the production line right now.

Thx. Actually, the physics make a lot of sense. Have heard a lot of discussion about varying numbers of dimples, but have never really thought about the depth of dimples (except in the case of this girl I dated some years back who had just the cutest). But considering golf balls, makes sense that the depth of the dimples probably matters as much to ball flight as the number.

Update? Was on Amazon tonight. Can currently order ProV1 for $49.95. But there is also a ProV1 for $56.39 - slightly different cover on the box - (I presume the new one) that says "Delivery Available October 21". Can pre-order now. I did.

Are you talking about this one? If so, that’s actually the 2019 version.
