Best feel in the 120g to 130g iron shaft realm?

Hello there. Looking for y’all’s opinion on the best shafts in the 120g to 130g weight range. Currently using modus 105 stiff though I’ve recently increased my speed to around 90 mph so considering going heavier to help with transition and knowing where the head of the club is on my downswing.

I would try the Modus 125.  Keeping in mind that the most direct way to increase head weight feel, is to just add weight to the heads.  A heavier shaft at the same swing-weight, won't necessarily feel heavier in the head

Modus 120, Project X LZ, X100 all feel best to me.

Although what you think is "best" and what myself and others consider "Best" is 100% subjective. So.. not sure anyone can answer you properly unless you describe what best is to you. The shafts you've listed are all quite different.

$ Taper is a bit more softer in the tip, while C Taper is quite stiff overall. Modus 130 I can't agree with the person above, I think it feels horrible. Very stiff butt section and softer tip area.

If you don't live near a box store and you like how modus 105 "feels" then I'd suggest sticking with Modus and going 120 or 125. 120 is going to be a bit softer, with a distinct kicking feel. 125 is more linear... I think it's Nippon's take on the S300.

The 120x appeals to me, though the 120S wasn’t a great shaft when I tried it out awhile back. But I wasn’t swinging as fast as I am now. The 105 is still a good shaft for me, though I am thinking something in the 120 range will help with head feel, allowing me to connect better with the ball. At least that’s my thought.

If you like the Modus 105 then Modus 125 would be the starting point.  They are supposed to be the same profile just different weights.  You could also look at Project X 6.0 or 6.5.  I recently purchased new irons and went from  Modus 125x to Project X 6.5 due to supply chain issues and have been very pleased with the Project X.

S300 or X100 is the best feeling shaft in golf if you ask me. I'm currently using Dynamic Gold AMT X100 (same exact shaft as AMT Tour White X100) and they are fantastic. Unfortunately, a lot of shafts are hard to get right now, including Modus and AMT models. That makes it pretty hard to try things.

I went in the other direction to take some weight out and hopefully make things easier on my surgically repaired shoulders.  Was in PX 6.0, went to Modus 105 Stiff -- I was thinking something graphite, but the fitter talked me into just going to lighter steel.  PX worked with my quick/abrupt transition, and he felt that the Modus 105 was doing the same at a lighter weight.

So, long story short, if your swing is relatively similar, just creating more speed, then the PX could be a good option in the heavier weight category.  6.0 seems to play more like a S+, so that might be a good place to start rather than jumping up to a 6.5 or 7.0.

Was going to say - plain old dynamic gold has such a nice feel. Smooth but never loose.

Based on amount of pro users it's easy to say x100.

Personally played a lot with KBS $ taper 130X and Project X LS 6.5. The PX does the job of flattening the flight, but the KBS definitely felt better.

Did you like $tapers

For best feel, nothing beats composite/graphite.  MMT or LAGP A or L-Series shafts would be the way to go depending on how high/low you want launch.  As far as steel shafts go, the Modus 130, KBS Tour and $-Taper would be the best feeling shafts IMO.

I literally just went from a modus 105S to a True Temper Tour Issue X100 today.

There is a different in weight but in a good way. I'm similar to you in that I got fitted with the 105S 3 years ago. since then I've practiced lots and my speed has increased to the point I've gained 15 yards but was also started hooking my irons 15-20 yards left. The swing weight of the x100 is such that I feel the club head more so I'm feeling more controlled in my downswing when I'm swinging faster. I felt like at high speeds, the 105S felt like there was no control. My arms were erratic because I couldn't really feel the club head.

For reference my 6 iron carries 190-195. Ball speed is 130-132 mph

When I switched today, I was still hooking the x100 left 15-20 yards but I could immediately feel what I was doing in my swing which caused the hook while the modus 105S felt so light that I couldn't really feel anything. It was easier to straighten the shot out after practicing.

Do you have A smooth or aggressive transition ?

Early or late release?

looking for higher or lower ball flight?

More spin or lower spin?

is your miss left or right? Push -slice - draw - hook?
