Crump Cup at Pine Valley this Sunday?

I'm hoping to finally make it here on Sunday Sep 25th. Covid and other issues before that have always gotten in the way.

My question is - does anyone have info regarding this year's tournament and if they plan on opening it up to the public again? Also times and if it's still a bus you board at the amusement park.

Thanks....

  • pktaske changed the title to Crump Cup at Pine Valley this Sunday?

Someone in another thread said they called and PV wasn't allowing guests this year. That's all I've heard so take that with a grain of salt.

Please tell me this isn't because of some lingering Covid nonsense. Or worse, have the last 2 years drained them of the benevolence in allowing the working person to experience the course?

Muirfield treats their guests like dirt. Add in the fact that you can only play foursomes in the afternoon and have to bow and scrape to get a game. Unless you come from overseas and then the red carpet comes out.

They were very friendly to us the whole day.  Yes we were from overseas.  I also heard Pine Valley is kind to their guests fwiw.

Just looking at the flyover of this course.  They can have it.  It does not look like a fun experience.

I would love to have a chance to play any of these super exclusive courses, PV, Crystal Downs, etc.

My current club pro probably couldn't get me on the local executive 9 closest to any of those courses. 🤣

ive been lucky enough to play most of the courses mentioned in this thread. Pine Valley has been one of my best experiences , both the golf and the people.   Muirfield top notch too

I got a good buddy of mine that has played the Crump numerous times, and the rest of the cocktail circuit. He said you’re not missing anything and it’s really not worth going to unless you’re playing.

My experience was very different. I took my then 10 year old son along with me in 2018 and it was a great experience. He isn’t even a golfer and we both had a wonderful time.

Got busted taking photos (officially not allowed anywhere on the property) by a very jovial member…..I thought we were going to be asked to leave, instead he asked my son and I to climb down into the devil’s word not allowed so he could take our photo. 🙂 He encouraged us to have fun and take as many pics as we wanted. 🙂

Yes of course it would have been more fun to play, but I’m sad that the final match isn’t accessible any more, that’s too bad. 😞

I was not talking about the service or the people. It is the golf itself. The course looks brutal!

Here is the photo, I’ve posted this in another thread, but looks like the last time I’ll set foot there. That is a shame, but grateful we got to have the experience nonetheless.

Do you & your son use the same hair stylist?

I kid, I kid, but I think you & I use the same one.

I have not played it, but having walked it, it's not so bad off the tee but the most difficult series of approach shots I have ever seen.

There is simply no good miss into those greens.....and even a green-in-reg could be a bad miss!

Absolutely!!

At Oakmont, hitting the wrong part of the green can cost you 1-2 shots(unless you're a moron🤪)

At Pine?

2-3 shots

EASILY!!

As @Duct Tape and others that have Played can verify, when your caddie offers a "suggestion," regardless of your cap, regardless of what you THINK that your course mgt and green reading abilities are, STFU, smile, say "thank you" and take it as gospel🤣😂

Cheers🍻

Ha, or more likely he tells me, just work that draw of yours up the right side of the fairway, then I overcook one into the left trees.

Just keep smiling

Reminds me of another caddie story, this time my first round at St Andrews. As a kid from Arkansas never seen anything like it before. I actually started off pretty well, thinking this course was overrated, but sometime later on a now forgotten hole he told me to aim my drive at the church steeple.  Once we’d figured out which steeple I just pured a drive with a very nice rising draw that ended up maybe 2 degrees left of the target, and turned smiling to my caddie who had a look of horror on his face, saying, oh no laddie.   Ended up in some mini hell bunker (not the Hell Bunker) that I took two to get out of backwards.  Had an even bigger number at 17.  It took me a few more rounds before I grew to like the place.
