Wedge playing length-PW through LW

Are you matching playing lengths all through your wedges?

 

I am currently playing PW, Gap, 54, 58

 

wondering how to stagger the lengths. 
 

More so of matching the lengths on the 54 and 58.

Lots of ways to skin this cat.

 

These are my current preferences.

9i - 36"

PW/GW 35.75"

SW/LW 35.5"

 

Used to add another 1/4" between the PW and GW - but always played the SW/LW (54/58) the same length.

 

Really going to come down to what's the shortest length you're comfortable playing with the LW.   Then work the gaps back to your 9i/PW lengths.

I'm with Stuart_G on this.

 

My newest set of irons I am playing my PW/GW the same length at 36"

I am playing my SW/LW the same length at 35.75"

 

In my older three sets of irons I have played the PW/GW/SW/LW  are all the same lengths at 36" 

 

The last few rounds I put in an older set of sand,lob wedges so at the moment all my wedges are the same length.

I 3rd this, but recently I've been coming up short with my GW, so thinking about adding a 1/4 to 1/2" to it so see if I can gain back the distance.

1/4" progression through all my wedges

None are used for full shots on the regular so the length progression doesn't make as much sense. More comfortable than the other wedges being shorter. Also don't mind the shorter wedges having a slightly higher swing weight

PW, SW, LW all Standard PW length, 60 always felt too short standardly.

I play all my wedges at the same length and lie. With GP Tour Velvet +4 grips there's plenty of room to grip down if I think I need to.

My gap and sand are same length my lob is a 1/4 shorter

I go by weight. My 48 and 52 wedges are the same head weight. They are actually the same head, just bent differently, as there is 4* of loft and 4* of bounce difference between them.
 

So I play both of them the same length.

 

My 58* is heavier head weight and I play it shorter. My 44* is lighter and I play it longer.

After getting a tip from a well known short game pro, I play the GW, SW, LW all the same length so setup and delivery is the same.  Makes wedge play and practice more consistent. PW is 1/2" longer and I'll choke down that much for chips if I'm using it around the greens.

Bumped my Pw/Gw up abit to tighten up full shot distances in the short irons without feeling like my Sw/Lw are overly long and ungainly for delicate chips.

I build off a 37 inch 7 iron and use 3/8 inch progression for the set except for the short irons. 
 

PW/GW are both at 36 inches, 1/4 inch shorter than my 36 1/4 inch 9 iron.
 

Then 36 5/8 for the 8 iron and so on. 
 

Basically gives me a little lower swing weight in the long irons and better control, and heavier swing weights in the short irons.

 

I use my gap wedge for a lot of full shots and I find in short irons the loft is so high I get correct distance gapping without having to go to shorter playing lengths. I used to get a wider distance gap between my pitching wedge and gap wedge.

All of my wedges are PW length and GW, SW, & LW have Jumbo grip.  It helps me keep the blade open.

I’m +.5 but build my SW & LW to the same length as my Gap. I’ve done all the same as my PW before and would have no problem doing it again.

Pw-LW for me are all same length. 36.25 Been that way for 4 years.  No chance I’d ever consider going back. Standard or staggered wedges are too short for me .

I’m tall and recently went to matching lengths on the GW/SW/LW, with 1/4” progression between 9 and PW, and PW and those three. Working well for me.

I have played my 52/12 and 58/8 at 47' PW length, 35.75", for years.  FYI, extending wedges to PW length increases swing weight.  Seems my Gap is around D7 and LW is D9 with MMT 125s shafts. 

 

I think it's time to replace MMT 125s.  Will be replacing all iron shafts soon, going to lighter composite.
