16* launch at 155+ ball speed

Came across a VeloCore TR Blue 6s and was able take some swings with it vs my Tensei AV-XLINK White 65s in my Callaway Rogue ST Max 10.5* set at -1/D.

 

Tensei White ball speeds average 153 mph and TR average of 158 mph.  13 more yards of carry for the TR but both were launching high with the White avg of 15* and TR 16* (switched between shafts to try and get a fair assessment).

 

The #’s are from Trackman range at my local range and I don’t put too much stock into the numbers other than comparing clubs or shafts on any particular day I am there.

 

However, I played the TR/Max combo on Monday and in real-life on the course was right in the 265-270 carry with no roll to speak of as fairways were very soft but also hitting the ball very high.

 

Last time I was fit I was +3* up at impact, but have been working on hitting up more on it, recently.

 

More than happy with the distance increase from the TR and better dispersion, but wondering if I should be looking at a lower lofted head to bring launch down?

I have an AOA of +7 and finally went to 7.5 head and KAI"LI Black from a Ventus Blue Velecore... Launch went from 16 to 13 and gained 15 yards of roll out...

Range balls at the range, which are fairly new as the range was renovated late this summer and under new ownership so Callaway range balls that feel surprisingly good.

 

Pro V1x on the course.  
 

That in and of itself could explain the higher than normal launch that I’m seeing at the range.

 

Flight was high on the course but distance and dispersion was good, for me and my swing.

May see if I can find a 9* Rogue ST head to try out as it has me curious.

That launch number of 15-16 is not all that high for slower ball speeds in the mid 150's, it's probably near ideal at that ball speed.  Getting near 300 total out of that ball speed is nearly maximizing things.

Thanks for the input.  I have looked at a few of the various Trackman charts floating around on the web and most show a lower launch angle of 13-14 at 105 mph but some use a range of 13-16 so I may be in a good window for my SS.

 

Curious more than anything as the season is winding down here in Michigan and just looking to see what I want to keep for next year and move the rest on its way.

15* of launch is perfectly fine for your ball speed.  Optimal would be 12-16* so I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn’t worry too much if dispersion is good and it isn’t spinny. But with that AoA, launch angle, and the ball speeds, I think a 9 degree head may be worth a shot. Especially since you are working on hitting up even more on it, which won’t do anything for you unless you can reduce spin loft.

 

A little unrelated but I think the Trackman Range is fine for ball speeds and launch angle. The carry distances for me were much shorter than they were on a real Trackman.
