Stuck shafts

Hi All, I’ve slowly been rebuilding an older set of clubs (Macgregor VIP Tour CB92) that I’m buying piecemeal from eBay, used bins, etc….  Problem is, on two of the clubs (8 & 9) the original shafts are absolutely stuck in the heads.  All the others pulled fine with just a bit of heat to break the epoxy, but these two will not budge at all.  I’ve tried it, my local shop has tried it, and nothing.  I’m starting to wonder if they’ve been welded in somehow?  What would y’all suggest?  Maybe cut them off and get a machinist to drill out the shaft from the hosel?   I’m also unsure what shaft diameter these had originally, and if it’s some kind of taper tip then any drill bit would have to have the exact same taper, right?  Any advice?

Heat, Heat and more Heat. I would put it in a vice, heat it a lot then using a rubber mallet or hammer and block of wood, whack it a few times, I bet it comes off.

I’ve gotten it absolutely ripping hot but I could try… but I worry all this would do is deform the club (loft/lie)

First, they are .355 tapered hosels.  I don’t know what kind of equipment your local shop has or their expertise.  But a simple solution is a carbide burr on a dremel or similar tool.  Cut off the shafts at the hosel and simply grind out the remaining shaft tip with the carbide burr.  A little time consuming but straight forward to accomplish.

A piece of 1/4" rod from the hardware store can be used as a ramrod to drive the head off.  Failing that, I'd do as skraly says and grind out the shaft.

Cut the shaft off 4" above the hosel and drill out the inside to make sure they aren't pinned. Drill a 5/16" hole in a block of wood and cut the block in half at the center of the hole. Clamp the 4" of shaft in the block, heat the crap out of the hosel and drive it off with a rod and hammer down the shaft.

I second Ri-Redneck I have used this method before, and this will save you anymore frustration and headaches, and be relatively simple to accomplish.
