Transitioning to graphite

Modus 120 is unique, without any similar shaft in the market, graphite or steel.

Regarding the elbow issues, are you hitting a lot of range balls off range mats by chance?  If so, that's the problem.

Also realize that shaft weight is the main feature when making a change.  Flex profile is secondary compared to weight.

I wouldn't say that any of the graphite offerings are the same as the Modus 120 but there are a few that stand out.

Recoil or Recoil Proto- Both will launch higher like the Modus 120 and have feel to it.

MMT- Lower launching and spinning than the Modus 120 but feel great.

LAGP A-Series- Mid/mid shaft that will similar to Modus 120 but will feel the best IMO out of the three composite/graphite shafts I mentioned.

TM Stealth Plus+ 9* - Tensei 1K Pro Orange 60TX

TM SIM ti 15* - Diamana ZF 80TX

TM Tour Issue Rescue 11 TP Deep Face Ghost Proto 16* - Ventus Black HB 9TX

New Level NLU-01 21* - KBS Proto 105X

New Level 623-M 5-PW - MMT 125 TX

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I have done research and found the same info that was provided.  Didn’t realize that the Modus was so unique.  Will probably experiment with several options.  I may possibly even try something a little lighter.  I have absolutely loved the Modus shaft but feel it’s time to lessen impact on the joints.

One of the bigger problems is the combination of higher weight with a softer profile.    Nippon 105 S is actually more like most other shaft OEM's R flex shafts.

But the problem is that (due to lack of demand) most shaft OEM's don't make an R flex graphite shafts above 100 gm.   So it typically will come down to which you do better with  - go lighter to keep the flex  (e.g. Recoil 95 R or SF i95 R)  or keep the heavier weight but play a stiffer shaft (e.g.  Recoil 110 f4 stiff).

In most cases - weight tends to be more important.  But it's impossible to say for you and your elbow condition - which of those two directions might give the best relief.

I recently switched to a new set of irons with Aerotech Steelfiber i110 stiff, after playing Nippon NS Pro 980GH stiff for a couple of years, so have gone up a bit in weight and probably flex too.

I don't have any problems getting the ball flighted, goes higher than I got before, with good distance, but the club feels a little lost in the swing sometimes. Feels a bit dead, not dead like C-Taper, but just not much feel. I have a tempo which errs towards quickish, and sometimes I don't know where the club is. So I have started trying to be more deliberate and slower in the backswing, which is probably not a bad thing anyway.

Have been experiencing golfers elbow and sore joints for several months now.  Thinking about taking the plunge into the graphite iron shaft pool.  Currently play Nippon Modus 120S and have played these for over 5 years.  What graphite iron shaft would be most similar?

I was in your exact situation about a year ago. I really love Modus 120S shafts but must play graphite for similar reasons.

I tried about 4-5 sets of graphite shafts and many didn't work for me for various reasons. I've found two sets that do seem like a really good replacement for the Modus 120S.

The shafts I'm using now are Steelfiber FC115's in F4 (stiff). These replicate the smooth feel and easy loading of the Modus 120S and they're about the same weight so you won't need to make any timing adjustments to play them.

I also had a set of irons on Ozik Matrix F15's that I believe were 95-99 grams and regular flex. I could also play those shafts quite well. If anything they were a little whippy for me. They're no longer made and most of the ones you can find out there are the 80g version which would be quite an adjustment for you.

Good luck!

Thanks for this advise.  This is the type of info I have been looking for.  A colleague of mine has those steel fibers and he loves them but he came from Project X.
