921 HMP vs 923 HMP. Hit them both today.

Thanks for the heads up on Jason's 923 reviews. Last I saw was his new LM Studio and his update on his other projects. IMO, Jason is one of the best detailed reviewers out there, I wish he had more following and hits, he deserves it... anyway...

While this is the 923 Hot Metal (not Pro) review, the toe "miss hits" continue to impress

I love my JPX 921 HMP specifically because of my toe hits so it looks like the 923 WILL continue this... or so it seems till Jason releases his assessment on the 923 HMP.

He has a benchmark of 173 carry with the 921 HMP 7 iron on the toe, be interesting to see what the 923 HMP will be like in comparison...

Great to see Mizzy continue to AMAZE with the 923 line 👍

He’s the best reviewer in the game, in my opinion. Watching his reviews just has me itching to get my new irons. I had identical results as he did. I swear no matter where I struck it, my shots ended up 175-180. The consistency blew me away. I hit some that were dogs, just terrible strikes. I said it as I hit it, and the fitter and I both couldn’t believe what I got out of them. The absolute worst strikes still got out to 170. The worst shot I hit (out of probably 50), went 166.

42.5 PW? Madness. This is a Pro model, not an out and out power bat. Not going onto my Winter testing list. Will await the 923 Forged.

I get it. To each their own. Jacked lofts don’t bother me in the least bit. My gaps are spot on, and the ball stops when it hits the green. That’s the only thing that matters to me. The number stamped on the club means nothing to me. But I get how it turns some people off.

Good clarification.  Someone in the pre-release forum on the JPX 923 thread said to check out the AskGolfNut youtube channel on these irons, and one thing he said piqued my interest.  His assessment of the JPX line being really friendly to those of us who miss out on the toe of irons has me thinking about a possibility of trying them.  I've been on an iron search for what feels like two years, but it's only been one.  I've gone from Apex 21 to ZX7 to T200/T100s combo set to trying ZX5 in the 5 & 6 with the rest ZX7.  I'm not in love with any of those yet, but I feel a full set in ZX5 might be the leading candidate.  I can get pretty steep, so the srixon V-sole works better for me than the T200/T100s combo set soles.  ZX7 is just a wee scoshe too thin in the short irons, which is why I'm leaning toward all ZX5.  Apex 21 had a bit too much offset for my comfort and overall just didn't work great.  Maybe it's a shaft issue too.

HMP would probably be my best fit, but offset looks to be relatively similar to Apex 21.  Maybe they would hide it better though.

Sorry for the threadjack.  Where's the Club Ho's Anonymous thread?

No such thing as a threadjack👍🏻 We’re all just a bunch of bums who love to talk about golf. That’s why I love this site!

Just to touch on the GW comments:

There was an issue I had with the 921 HM GW. The offset was the same as the HMP 6 iron. I hated that. Took some getting used to, but the gapping was fine.

The offset in the 923 GW is more in line with what it’s supposed to be. The 923 HM GW offset is less than the HMP PW. Maybe they heard enough complaints about it, and designed set wedges that actually flow with both HM and HMP.

I have the JPX GW (50’) and SW (55”) wedges I bought with my 919 HMP’s. They are perfect gapping and I never noticed the offset with them.

Glad to hear good things about the 923 wedges bur I am considering going to the TM MG3’s to match my 60”
Anyway, probably going  look into upgrading to the 923’s with graphite. Still loving my 919’s though.

Stronger lofts are unfortunately the Trend however I do wish like the Recent Ben hogans, just stamp lofts.  Also I hope the 48 wedge is the same build and material as the P wedge.  Otherwise your basically using specialty wedges at that point on full shot clubs.

I guess I don’t get the stamped club number or loft thing. I don’t pay any attention to what’s stamped on a club. It could be dots, dashes, colors, numbers or letters. Makes no difference to me as long as I know how far it goes, and how it stops. But, to each their own. The GW is the exact same material, it’s just a touch larger head profile. I’m happy they changed the offset to fit more in line with the rest of the set, though.

Factory lofts are merely a guide to me.

If lofts are too strong, these clubs can be bent 2 degrees weak no problem. But a lot of players are actually adding loft at impact, so that 42.5 degree PW might already be playing like a 45-46 degree wedge. A lot of these club designs are aimed at players who have little to no shaft lean at impact, or the club has even passed the hands already. So for those who need the distance they are losing there, it’s there.

For those that don’t, weaker lofts also means less offset, which we all know is viewed on WRX as the cause of all hooked shots.

Win-win.
