Brighton, MI area private clubs?

I'm considering a potential job opportunity in Brighton, MI. I'd want to live and play golf maybe within 15 miles of there. Looking for some commentary on the local private club scene. I did some looking around on maps and found a place called Lakelands Golf & CC that looked interesting, found a Clubcorp facility called Oak Pointe (I'd prefer to avoid Clubcorp), and a bunch of public courses. I'd be looking for a private, easily walkable course that's not completely packed all the time. Does that exist in the area? If not, I might be interested in a decently conditioned public course that has a season pass that gives you some kind of priority on tee times and is also an easily walkable course. Not really interested in the real high end clubs closer in to Detroit that are well out of the 15 mile range of Brighton. Thanks!

I haven't played Oak Pointe in years but have attended a number of social events there and I like the vibe.

Buddy is a member at Oak Pointe. I play out there quite a bit each year. Courses aren’t anything special. As previous poster pointed out, vibe is pretty cool there.

Huntmore and Majestic are good conditioned public tracks, Oak pointe, from what I've heard, new members have a difficult time getting tee times....

Maybe Prestwick Village in Highland Twp., if it's not too far.

Travis Pointe CC, where the Volvik was played, and Barton Hills.  I've played Lakelands a number of times, fun course.  I have no idea the cost of any, but I'm pretty sure Barton is the high end one.

 

Not sure why you you dismiss clubcorp. My buddy was a member at TPC Dearborn and he would play all over. We'd get out to Oakhurst a couple of times a year as well.

I doubt you'll really find any public courses that allow walking any time you want.

Thanks for the info. I dismissed the clubcorp option because of a reputation for overcrowding and a bad experience I had at club owned by a different "club company".  I was offered the job but ended up turning it down. I couldn't justify selling a house with a 3% mortgage to buy one with a 7% mortgage in an area with a shorter golf season than I have now.
