Modifying a 4 iron into a driving iron

Hello, I am pretty new to modifying golf club but there's a project I have been thinking about doing

I currently have a 4 iron nike vapor fly pro from the 4-PW set, I am wondering if instead of buying a 2 or 3 driving iron from titleist/taylormade/srixon/mizuno etc
Could I instead make the loft stronger on my 4 iron and change the shaft for a stiff graphite but I would keep it a bit shorter than the usual 2 or 3 driving iron

Would that work? I want a long iron that can go farther and more penetration low ball flight for winding days but I don't want the shaft to be as long, cause I know I will struggle with it

Yes. A driving iron is just a low lofted iron that is predominantly off the tee. Heads vary based on offset and sole width though. If you like your 4i, you can strengthen it a couple degrees(which will increase offset a touch) and add a lighter graphite shaft.  If you play a heavier steel shaft in your irons you will probably see a 5-10y increase in distance simply from the lighter graphite. Be mindful of swingweight change going to the lighter graphite but keeping same length. You’ll need to add weight back to the head to maintain swingweight.

I just recently got a PXG 0211 XCore2 4 iron, which comes in 19* and I had to order it 1 degree weak,  with stiff MMT shaft to use as 3\driving iron for 0311ST. You can easily order it 1 or 2 degree strong and it'll be like a 2 iron in the VFP set.

Is Vapor Fly Pro forged? If not, you probably can't bent it so much to turn a 4 iron into a 3. Even a forged club probably can't be changed 5 degrees to go from a 4 to 2. Why not just pick up a cheap Vapor Fly or Speed head instead of messing with Fly Pro 4 iron and I am sure you'll regret that.

IMHO, if you struggle with long irons, driving irons are probably not the best suited for you.

Yes you can take that 4i and use it with a shorter graphite.  SW will be off - add lead tape to head if you like or use internal tip weights.  Not sure the head model you mentioned can be bent.  I use a Titleist T300 stock 4i head bent to 19* with a graphite shaft.  Its not a designated utility like Titleist sells (T200, U505) but works just the same IMHO.

Couple of things here;

Yes a 4 iron makes a great utility and I've done it several times, and currently have a P790 4 iron in that spot right now being used as such

Generally utilities/DIs are larger heads with lower spin and/or you would use a game improvement iron one step up at least from the type of club you usually play. So if you use a blade/MB you would use a cavity back, if you use a cavity back you would use a game improvement head, etc.

Using the Vapor Pro as this 4 iron doesnt make much sense especially if its the same as your 5-PW set. All you would be doing is expiramenting with graphite shafts, not really experimenting with a full utility club.

I would look for a Nike Vapor Speed 4 iron or Vapor Fly pro/Vapor Fly 4 iron to do this with on ebay - or any other P770/P790/T200/Mizuno HMB/players cavity/etc and a nice 100g hybrid shaft.

You could absolutely bend it strong enough and get the shaft and sw set-up so that it plays as more of a driving iron.  Bending the loft that many degrees strong shouldn't cause any issues when the ball is teed up, but you may have some turf contact issues when trying to hit it off the ground.  Loft and bounce are a 1:1 ratio, so if you decrease loft 3-4 degrees, you are also losing 3-4 degrees of bounce,
