Ryder/President Cup Idea

Hear me out…..with pro golf in disarray, what if the loser of the Ryder cup had to play in the presidents cup the next year? Like a relegation.

so for arguments sake, it was europe this past year. They play the international squad for the right to play against the United States NEXT year in the 2023 Ryder Cup? Everyone gets involved. Fans win.

and sponsor it so the players who feel they need compensation get compensated.

times are changing. Am I stupid?

I’ll see your motion. Here’s the thing. The Internationals team comprises of players from other countries excluding the EU.
I know your thoughts are to make this slaughter more watchable but if you take the losing Ryder Cup team for Europe it’s just another Ryder Cup.
I don’t know how to make it more interesting other than to increase the player pool somehow for the Internationals. The stars for the Internationals went to the other league. This was an undetermined factor at the beginning of the year.
The Presidents Cup is a wash this year because of all the player movement. Perhaps better next year.

Chamblee I think proposed this yesterday or the day before, only the winners play. I love the idea of the losers but it would always stay the same format as the USA cant beat the Europeans

The us just did tho

yes I know

but my guess is they are done for a while, not sure why they are world beaters literally when it comes to the Pres cup, but look not too good usually in the Ryder, they still should be favored by ranking, but justcan't cime through. It is the same format almost exactly yes, except for their competition

So how exactly would this plan work when it comes to site selection? You have to select sites years (or decades) in advance. What happens if the Ryder Cup is to be played at The Belfry, but the European side isn't even competing in it?

If the concern is that people don't watch or don't care about the President's Cup, I can only imagine how much less they would care about it if it was Europe VS International.

If only it did.

They'd be fielding McIlroy, Hovland, Fitzpatrick, Hatton and Fleetwood this week. And we'd have a game on.

You obviously change the site. It took no time for the pga to pull out of Doral…have it based upon the host team being present. If they are not you move it.

What is the point of the presidents cup anyway, is it just to give players outside of Europe/USA a chance to play in a Ryder Cup style event.

LIV vs. PGA, if team LIV wins they get to play in PGA events for that year.

I don't know if you're kidding lol....but yes i believe that is pretty much why it exists

I doubt it's because of the cultural bond and team-like pride between Canada, Argentina and South Korea etc

Probably why we suck

Finchem wanted saw how much money the Ryder Cup generated for the PGA Of America and wanted to do something similar.

I'm for a mixed team Presidents Cup format.

- Jin Young Ko 🇰🇷

- Minjee Lee 🇦🇺

- Lydia Ko 🇳🇿

- Atthaya Thitikul 🇹🇭

- Brooke Henderson 🇨🇦

- In Gee Chun 🇰🇷

That is some international team.

The President's Cup is such a dead end idea I'd be all for an idea like this to see how it went.

Exactly. It is so lopsided.

The US team are 11-1-1 in 13 matches. Soon to be 12-1-1.

Jack Nicklaus was one of the driving force to allow European players to compete in the Ryder Cup which helped it maintain it relevance in golf. This the a similar scenario for the Presidents Cup which needs a significant change, otherwise it will continue to lose its relevance.

There is no harm in increasing awareness of women's golf and we know these top women players can play at a high level.

And IIRC the LPGA doesn't have a team competition for USA vs. International so this would be an easy way to do it and not overshadow the Solheim Cup.

Agreed.

The US women players will also benefit from this format change.

- N. Korda 🇺🇸

- Thompson 🇺🇸

- Kupcho 🇺🇸

- J. Korda 🇺🇸

- Kang 🇺🇸

- Khang 🇺🇸

Looking at the top 6 US players at the moment, it appears it would even out the strengths of the US and International teams, if they chose the top 6 male players respectively.

The more I think about this the more I think it's completely pointless, why is a guy from Colombia supposed to have camaraderie with a guy from South Africa.

Ryder Cup though.

England and Scotland. England and Ireland. France and England. Germany and England. Spain and England (technically, Gibraltar). Northern Ireland - at least a big chunk of it - and England. Sweden are now a pariah. Italy will be soon...
