Lower COG hybrid with same iron MOI?

Hello, is it possible for a hybrid to have the same head MOI as an iron but with a lower COG? Because I noticed swinging a 3-hybrid compared to a 4-iron with 1/2 inch difference and same DG S400 shafts (no hard/softstepping) and same club MOI, I can still feel a difference.

It’s like the face is resisting rotation on the 3-hybrid more than the 4-iron, and that has to be from a higher head MOI, right? So is there any hybrids that has the same head MOI as irons but still having a lower COG?

That's a tough one and would depend on what iron you're comparing them to,...but you'd probably have to go back to hybrid designs from the past.  For low COG and lower MOI, look for hybrids that have a smaller head size and shallower face.

A couple examples are the Titleist 585H and the Taylormade Burner TP (2007).  The 585H is "moderately shallow" and the Taylor has an even shorter face height...definitely shallow and low COG

No it doesn't have to be.  In fact unless you have an extremely late release and fast face closure rate, it's probably not likely.  Although despite that, yes it is still a possibility.  When it comes to the golf swing, feel is frequently not real.    A more likely cause is that hybrids and irons typically have very different visuals at address (including face angle) and some people are very sensitive to that difference.   It can cause differences in the way one aligns and grips the club or play a wide variety of head games with the person swinging the club that can effect the swing.

But if it is MOI, I doubt you'll have much luck finding a hybrid that's close to a typical iron head.

MOI value of the club, is a question of where COG is located.
- Take a look at a IRON vs a HYBRID

The hybrid is longer face to back, meaning it has the potential with this design, to move COG further back from the face at the same weight = higher MOI value on the head (mass x arm length)

If we now combine this, and use a carbon fiber crown, a lightweight titanium frame, and some tungsten at the right places, we can move COG both down and against the rear, = higher launch and better directional dispersion, compared to a iron with the same loft and wgt.

My own hybrids is "titanium only", but with a low face, and LONG face to rear, so the COG is lower than in my irons, and the directional dispersion is simply "way better", so i prefer a slow #5 hybrid, compared to a "out of the shoes swing" with my #6 iron, the outcome is given, unless im very lucky with the #6.

im not up to date with the latest models out there, so dont ask me for where to look to find the hybrid that fits this bill, but here is the link to the Hybrid heads i play myself, Swing Science S800, maybe the most ugly club heads ever made, but they work better than all ive tried.

The comparison link that @keyser posted may be the only good one around, though it doesn't say what models they measured.  I'll differ from the guys a bit here in that MOI for a hybrid won't necessarily be higher than an iron depending on design (though it certainly could be).  Since MOI reported is vertically through the CG, the rearwardness of CG doesn't automatically increase MOI.  It's just the distribution of mass away from the CG that counts.  The one they used for comparison had the same MOI as their iron at 13.5 oz-in²

Hybrid also had the same C Dim, weight, loft, higher RCOG*, lower actual VCOG, vs the iron.

As far as your delivery with each club, of course that's up to how you react to the club build, feel, and visuals like Stuart says.  Technically I like to say that MOI - if measured at the hosel (not as reported) - is higher then that's giving more resistance to opening/closing the face.  Though we don't know those numbers because no one measures it.  So yes, possibly a noticable resistance feel there.

RCOG could make a feel and dynamic difference.  Around impact when the CG is trying to align with the shaft axis at the hands, the hybrid should present more loft, and possibly close the face more.  It's also a different feel being more of an offset weight (a little torque to the hands).  *IMO RCOG would be better if reported as the distance to the hosel centerline (Ref. dimensions in the pic) instead of their virtual sharp leading edge for these physical reasons.

Btw I'm not sure why Maltby doesn't show MOI on clubs other than irons and putters.  They could be measured on the same machine.  Maybe they just don't think the numbers would look good.
