Callaway Woods and Drivers 2023?

Jailbreak hasn't gone anywhere.  Are you referring to the dots on the sole that have been there in previous generations?  Those dots never actually were the jailbreak feature and were cosmetic, especially after they moved to the jailbreak frame instead of the bars.

So your saying the jailbreak is like in the rogue fairways where it is in the sides of the frame AKA "batwing" technology.

No I just mean the dots on the sole of the driver were never the actual Jailbreak Frame.  They were cosmetic and the jailbreak frame was built internally only.  They just removed the dots on the sole for this year's models.

See the cut open Epic Speed driver as an example.  You'll notice the cosmetic dots on the sole are actually behind the frame.

Interesting that it looks like they went back to the CG cartridge they released in the Big Bertha Alpha 2014 and the following 2-3 releases before Epic in the TD head with the CG change.  I could be wrong and perhaps the CG cartridge is on the back but it looks like it is on the sole again.  I like that Kai'li white is being offered, its a slick shaft that feels great.  Not sure what that HZRDUS Silver is.  Jeez, PX has so many wood lines it is impossible to keep track of with Evenflow, HZRDUS 4G, Smoke RDX, VRTX, etc.  Sheesh.

Are you referring to the gravity core from the 815 and 816 line?  I don't think those are making a comeback here.  Just weight screws I believe.

Pretty underwhelmed so far tbh after all the hype. Serious question, why doesn’t the manufacturer just release their photos and pitches up front. Put an availability date on the press releases and move on. They know this stuff is going to get leaked early. Why not control the narrative and be upfront? I know all the manufacturers do it, I just don’t understand why.

No Jailbreak? Hmmmmmm

The jailbreak has been updated for the new driver.  Same idea but totally different look under the hood.  Looks like a snake tongue!

Hold out for a real look at the driver, which will be coming soon. Not this faded crummy pic of a page from the 2023 Callaway lineup catalog.

Which is my point exactly. Why would Callaway not want to drive the perception? I’ve been holding out on the TSR just to see this one. I’m not asking you directly it’s just something I’ve been wondering for a while with these manufacturers. Why not put it out there and let people get excited about it. From what I can see it’s a Rogue with blue on it. I don’t know any different because Callaway won’t tell us…..

They have spent countless hours across multiple departments coordinating a product launch/reveal.  Can't expect them to just toss that all out the window because someone leaked a grainy picture of their online product catalog.

Just got fit for the new driver as I'm on staff with Callaway as a pro.  I'm not sure I'm allowed to say what it is yet but It is awesome. Different look and color which some may not like.  I actually think it looks pretty good.  I used my LA Golf shaft in the Triple Black Diamond head and reduced my spin from 3400 to 2300. Much more forgiving than the Rogue ST Triple Black Diamond head.

I’m not saying they should just toss it out the window. You completely missed my point. Obviously it’s too late to change anything now in this release cycle. My question is why not plan it differently? Why not plan to start releasing marketing information to coincide with when you start presenting to dealers, fitters, influencers, etc.. If I’m releasing a product I would want to make sure I controlled the narrative and perception as opposed to some random leak on the internet that is inevitable in the times we live in. I’m sure it made sense pre social media but now I’m genuinely curious why companies still work this way.

It’s not just Callaway, all the companies do it so I’m not chastising just Callaway here it just doesn’t make sense to me for any of the companies.

Golf OEM's are notorious copycats.  Once one company takes the step to to do that, they will all follow suit immediately.  It's just whch one is gong to be the first ?

Oh, I see what you're saying.  Basically, do the reveal a month or more earlier than they do now.  I can see that.  But, on that note, you would have people that basically say "why not just release them now" haha.  I get it.  But, I think there are a lot of moving pieces too.  Old inventory to move or return.  Maybe would kill any November-December sales.  I don't know I guess.

No matter how the new Callaway looks it will not look better than a TSR of any model.  That's just facts.

Exactly……I’m sure people would say that, but that isn’t as much of an issue from the companies perspective imo. The issue is letting random people on the internet set the perception and narrative of products and then the company playing catch-up.

I think part of it comes down to how small of their consumer base people like us truly are.  The vast majority of buyers aren't clamoring to see leaked pictures of the new clubs.  There will always be club junkies like us here on wrx.  But, in the grand scheme of things, we are but a drop in a very large bucket.

Everyone else knows it as the Triple Diamond.

So Mr finch, what's up? And how's your brother miles? Is he still mad at buddy?

A possible reason for avoiding this type of marketing and information release is that their retail partners all have the current product line on store shelves.  Those retailer partners are trying to sell product for the holidays and clear out inventory.  If they released all of the intel on the new line coming in the spring, it could negatively impact their retail partners by either forcing a discount during a high volume period or cause potential buyers hold off until Spring - and all of us in sales know that "time is the killer of all deals".

Thank you, that’s a good point. It makes a lot of sense from a sales perspective but not exactly good for the consumer laying out the cash lol. But that’s true with most things I guess.

Also just did my fitting today.  I'm pretty darn easy to please when it comes to looks, and this driver is plenty pleasing to my eye.  As for the performance, I'm working on learning to play a fade off the tee, and when hitting that shape the new head had me over 1k rpm lower, just like you.

Yeah, I just picked up, um, more than a few yards, lol......
