Let's see...

N.b. prices include shipping to Dubai as that's what it has effectively cost me to own the kit.

Superquad, used - $245

Sonartec SS-2.5 + reshaft - $130

Sonartec Md x 2 + 1 reshaft: $350

r7 Forged irons: $900

Mizuno MX wedge: Free (Christmas prezzie)

TM RAC wedge: $120

Cally Tour Blue putter: $130

Grips for all the above: $80

TM cart bag: $90

Total: $2045

Could have been worse although this doesn't include all the kit I've bought over the last 2 years trying to get it set - 5 drivers, 5 iron sets, a few putters, bundles of shafts, countless wedges... I'm kinda ashamed of the expenditure to be honest.

Thankfully I think I'm there or thereabouts now. (Famous last words...!)

There's some real brilliant bargain bags out there - good work, I'm jealous!

This might be a healthy exercise for a lot of you. Voicing an obvious problem, often times can be that cry for help that leads to the first step towards a potential recovery.

Anyone shelling out more than $1,500.00 or replacing more than 8 clubs in the last 12 months is obviously caught up in the throes of "clubhophobia" - i.e. that overpowering, all encompassing fear that you are missing out on some fantastic new golf club technology somewhere that will somehow revolutionize your game even though you have had the same uncoached swing for the past 20 years.

In such a weakened mental state, victims of this sinister ailment fall such easy prey to televangelists/snake oil salesmen with their sly demo day promises of straighter, longer drives or no more hooks, slices or shanks oh my. What can these poor individuals do but fall over with their wallets and check books in the air. Paradise can finally be theirs for only $500.00 more here or $300.00 more there.

Among the buying habits of all market segments, the golf nut club ho early adopter, truly stands alone when it comes to illogical buying behavior. The only other group that even approaches such a level of irrationality in making significant purchase decisions are teenage girls picking out prom dresses. But alas, while prom is a once or twice lifetime event, seems there is always another scramble or club tournament coming up to tempt the club ho.

If you care about anyone trapped in this vicious cycle you owe it to them, to urge them to push away from the monitor, put the clubs in the closet for a month or two, and log some serious couch time with the friendly local mental health professional so they can begin to get to the bottom of egregious pressing issues.
