RIP my sweet baby G400…where do I turn?

Sorry to hear that. As a G400 user, I'd probably look first for a secondhand G400 (cheap version), or let the GolfWRX beast run free by going all out for a new driver. Probably start with the Titleist TSR range, then look at the Stealth drivers. At some point I'd have to hit a load of JDM heads just because I can.

Then I'd still go back and pick up an old G400😄

I had a G400 Max for years.   I loved it.  But my son gave me a PXG Gen2 0811XF to try.  The PXG kicked the 400 right out the door. I sold it.  The PXG is slightly longer, just as forgiving, and more workable. If I needed a new driver I'd be jumping all over the Gen4 0811XF for $219.

The G425 have had a price drop and have plenty of positive reviews. I switched from a G400 with the Alta S flex shaft to a Cally Epic Speed and have never looked in the rearview mirror since.

Second this.  If you're not going to try to find another used G400, now's the perfect time to grab a brand new G425 for about tree-fiddy.  They may not be identical, but if the G400 worked so well for you, the G425 should be pretty close.

Sorry about the G400 being cracked.  You should get another one.  It is still a very good head.

...Did not like the g425 - sound not for me

It's not for a lot of people, LOL.

i know you know this, but for those who don't, imagine combining the most jarring sounds from crushing an aluminum can with a smoked beer-league softball hit, and you'll be close.

But that's one of the reasons hot-melt is a thing...

What did Ping cust. serv say, OP?

Send the driver back to PING. They might replace it.

In the meantime, get a PXG Gen 4 XF driver. Very similar to the G400 Max in terms of shape, forgiveness and performance. It's also dirt cheap right now, and you can customize it to your specs.

I don't mind the G425 sound, it's a great driver! And a great price right now.

I like my G425.  Not going to win any awards in acoustics, but it's easy to hit and predictable.  If I was in the market I'd be taking a long look at the Cobra LTDx or the Cally Rogue.

I just got off the course playing with my previous driver…a Nike Vapor. Makes me miss my G400 so much. My good hits actually went same distance but I underestimated just how forgiving that G400 was. It’s actually amazing.

Anyways, gonna see if I set a time to hit some of these at my local fitter.

the G400 is 5 years old now. I hadn’t even thought to ask PING. I know there customer service is good but I can’t expect they would replace it. A search on golfwrx sounds like they’re pretty strict on the 2 year warranty now.

Save your shaft, find another G400. They can be had for less than $200 now in decent shape. You already know it's "the one." I have over 500 rds on mine.

If you can find a cheap g400 head, why not go that route? But if newer is an option at least go hit some new stuff. I can’t recommend the cobra LTDx enough. If I hadn’t been selected as a tester, I’m not sure I ever would have tried it and that would have been a huge mistake. It’s very forgiving and quite long. I was hitting a standard Mavrik well before and the cobra kicked it out of the bag. I was going to go to one of the golf galaxy free fittings for the TSr line but canceled. Based on what I’m seeing online the TSr2 might be the only driver head that would edge out the LTDx for me right now.

Budget a concern? I say either go PXG for new, or getting a g400. If budget isn't a concern, go try out some new stuff. I personally had the best results with the TaylorMade and Callaway, and right now I would go with the Callaway. Drivers I'm generally a TaylorMade guy, but I'm also one of those people who tend to be wary of brand new technology.

I feel your pain. Mine cracked in a practice round for US Open sectionals at the beginning of summer, real bummer. Ping wasn’t able to replace since it’s outside the warranty.

My thumb is currently broken so haven’t found a replacement yet. I’d go with a G425 with hot melt or used G400. G430 rumored to be coming out early next year.
