Pure Roll inserts in Taylormade putters

For those who are using Taylormade putters, do you enjoy the pure roll insert?

I'm coming from using milled putters and I'm really intrigued by the claims of the pure roll insert.

Also, do you what Taylormade changed with their pure roll inserts over the years?

I’ve used the Spider Tour Black and the Spider X for the last few years and the pure roll insert that is in both those putters puts a great roll on the ball. My experience with the Spiders is that they are forgiving, very solid and put a consistent roll on the ball.

For me(this is subjective, your mileage may vary), I think the Spiders work well for me due to the combination of the pure roll insert that you’re referring to and the shape of the Spider in terms of consistency, stability, roll and forgiveness.

On the other hand, I’ve rolled blades(Juno and Soto) mid mallets(Berwick) and fang Odyssey 7 style mallets(Spider SR) with the pure roll insert and I found all those putters relatively dull in terms of feel but I like a firmer feel off putters and I might be in the minority with that. There could be many out there that like that soft feel of the pure roll insert outside of the Spider putters. Whatever putter regardless of headshape and headweight that has the pure roll insert, it consistently rolls well from my experience.
My experience leads me to believe that it’s possibly more the Spider shape more than the pure roll insert that might work well for me.

I’m currently gaming the Spider EX that has the newer pure roll 2 insert. The pure roll 2 insert feels very solid and stable in the Spider EX and if I were to compare the Berwick(mid mallet with the pure roll grooves) to the Spider GT Notchback(mid mallet with the pure roll 2 grooves), I think that the Spider GT Notchback feels more solid and stable but both inserts put a great roll on the ball.
Hope that helps.

I have bounced around with putters over the last few years, but I am a firm believer in that insert.  Probably the best roll on the ball I have seen yet.  I may be looking for another Spider soon.

I have a Taylormade Suzaka mallet putter with the AGSI insert. I bought it in 2006 and it is my gamer. I putt with the ball forward (off left heel) in my stance and I get a roll of the ball very soon...no skid or hop on the ball. They do not manufacture that insert anymore, there is a 3rd party replacement insert. If I had to replace that putter, I would go to ebay for a Taylormade replacement in excellent shape. I have tried the Bettanardi milled face putters, they are great...but the ball comes off the putter face more solidly and either hops or skids prior to rolling. I hope that helps.

I enjoy the insert and finally tossed one in the bag this year.  I've jumped between putters for a long time, mostly bouncing between milled Scotty's, Betti's and the occasional Odyssey.  I always liked the pure roll insert but I'm a lefty so neck and head options haven't always been the best.  Almost pulled the trigger on many variations of the Spider over the last few years. When the new Spider line came out with the slant neck, and more traditional looks I snatched one up.  I also really like the extra tungsten and overall feel with the insert.

Overall, I am a fan and in my opinion, I like it because it works for me, it puts a great roll on the ball and isn't mushy soft like other inserts which I was never a fan of.  I like more traditional shapes so the Notchback works for me while still having some tech.  I get that "glued to the green" look with the ball more now with my Spider Notchback than I had previously with my Scotty Special Select over the last few years.  For me it works.
