Public Courses Within an Hour of Hollywood Florida

Hi,

      Every year I drive my Grandmother from Upstate NY to Hollywood Fla. This year I'm planning on bringing my clubs down because I normally stay down there for 10 days, and really want to get out and play during the winter. Does anyone have any suggestions around Hollywood to play? I plan on playing one round at Doral for a nice expensive round, but every other public track I looked up looked pretty dumpy. Let me know if you guys know of any good ones in the area.

Love Preserve. Jacaranda is right down the street from there as well, and its a tossup which one is nicer. Jacaranda does have two 18s if that matters to you.

Osprey Point in Boca has 27 holes and is worth the drive from Hollywood

Wow just looked this course up. Looks like a hell of a course. Seems like I'm losing 100 balls there. I might have to check it out. Honestly all of the courses suggested in here seem better than Doral Blue Monster.

My best piece of advice is if you're going to miss, miss far right on most of the holes haha

Played Osprey Point other day, I’d say it’s the best in the area for the value. 
 

Played Orangebrook East today with my boy, good course for him. Conditions aren’t great but good enough for a junior.

Great info in this thread, thanks. I’m heading to Hollywood (Hard Rock) later this month. Looks like most of the options here only have a 7 day booking window, so I’ll have to check back.
 

The prices also seem a tad higher than expected (I can’t find prices for Plantation Preserve or Osprey Point). I’m at the mercy of traveling with two friends who only play a few times a year and if it’s going to be $125+ I’m going to need confidence they’ll really find it something special. Would Jacaranda fit that at $179 (or $139 afternoon)?  Looks like Emerald Hills can be had for $100-$130 midweek. Crandon and Deer Creek also in the $140 range.

Jacaranda at $179 is incredibly steep and not sure you would find it worth it, might be more palatable at $139 in the afternoon if the rate drop is early enough to get 18 in.  Emerald Hills from what I remember was never bad but conditions would be hit or miss.  No experience with Crandon or Deer Creek.

Thanks. I’m starting to think I’ll leave the clubs home and enjoy a day by the pool or something lol. Here in NJ we think of Florida as golf golf golf, but I’m kind of shocked how I’m struggling to find a good option.

It's tough this time of year since it's "in season" so everyone jacks their rates up.  Also I know Covid caused a few of the decent priced options to go under and turn into housing developments sadly.  A lot of options in Florida just stinks the better ones tend to be semi or fully private.
