If you could only play one course in England...

If you could only play one course in England which would it be?  I may have a brief amount of time in England and just enough time for a day of golf.  Geography and logistics aside, which course would you play?  I hear a lot about Sunningdale Old, Royal St George, and Royal Birkdale.  Do any stand out over the others?  I know they're all likely phenomenal tracks.  Thanks for any input.

All practical matters aside, Kington is the course I would choose for my one and done. 

 

For the guy who wants one game without too much hassle from London, probably Sandwich. Deal is an excellent alternative. Pulborough is also a great choice. Keeping it very simple for London, Woking or perhaps St George's Hill

...of course Sunny Old.

Birkdale was my favorite I played in England. Enjoyed it much more than St. George's.

Sean, you may be the only one I know of who would make Kington their first choice. Your other six suggestions are all good choices and more mainstream 😁

Well, I only chose those other six for convenience. They wouldn't be where I would play 😎.

A couple years ago (just pre-covid) the wife and I took a golf holiday to the Cotsworlds and the whole golfing intinerary was recoomended by Sean and yes Kington was included and a very worthwhile drive.

If its just the golf you are concerned with, definitely Sunny Old and Swinley. Swinley has been doing great work clearing out crap trees, rhododendrons and generally improving conditioning. If you can grab an early time before a society it's easy to cruise around, head to Sunny for early lunch and play the Old.
