Help me pick an outdoor hitting set up!

Recommended Posts

Hi! I need help with getting a basic outside setup for home. I'm looking to improve my game with a hitting net, mat, and LM. Here are the keys:

  • I to need to put away everything after use. Used predominantly outdoors with no current plans to bring it inside. I have a paved patio I could put this on or a lawn.
  • I would like a net that makes me feel confident I'm not going to damage my house as the setup will be close to a lot of windows. Probably would like to have minimum 10ft of ball flight, 13ft preferred.
  • Working on my face to path consistency and assessing ball flight (my biggest issue right now is left-to-right dispersion), so I'd like a LM that can do path and face to path well enough to actually work on it.
  • I want to be able to play some simulated games (wedge distances on range, at least one simulated course).

My current thoughts are:

  • Mat: Fiberbuilt flight deck and a dura-pro mat for standing (the mats are 1.75" but only 3x3). Want to come in under $200.
  • Net: Spornia SPG-7, but I'm worried it's too small to protect my house (or neighbors) from stray hits with driver. Maybe a Rukket or ???. Hoping to come in under $300 if possible.
  • LM: Used Mevo+ with pro package would be ideal, but I'm open to other suggestions. I think around $2300-2500 would be the max I'm willing to spend.

Thanks!

I have a callaway net that's rated for 150 ballspeed. I live in the 160 range and haven't damaged it yet. $140-160

I bought the Teestrike pro 4x5 mat based on reviews and a buddy who has it and likes it a lot. $200

I have the mevo+ with pro package. You can get it for $2700 out the door right now.

Personally, if there was even the slimmest chance of hitting your house or worse your neighbor, I would use a cage. Granted it would be near impossible to set up and take down each time. But if you have a .01% chance of missing the net, then in 100 days of hitting 100 balls a day you will statistically send one ball flying past the net.

Admittedly, I haven't been able to use it much due to work, life, etc., but it seems to be accurate when set up correctly. I will say I am at a place where a miss-hit or pop-up is going to miss any net, even if it were the larger SPG8. If I were to be in an enclosed space where there were things that could get damaged, I would seriously consider more safety netting, especially above.

Otherwise, the LM, net, and mat are as advertised.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that I bought a 3x3 zoysia mat off of DW Quail to stand on. It's about the right height to match the flight deck.

Nice, yeah life happens!  It’s crazy to me the cost difference from the Spornia  SP7 vs SP8. I’m going to be buying one in the next month or so, I just don’t know about the cost difference. Thanks for the reply and hopefully more time opens up for you. I amm lol so love the look of the goSports elite net, but it only goes 7.5’ tall and there are like 0 reviews on that sucker online. Great price compared to the net return.

This is definitely the case.  I launched one on top of my neighbor’s house one time (luckily just a bounce and not a missile).  I could no longer use the net outside from that point on.  I would subconsciously slow mid-swing in fear of breaking something which would screw up my mechanics and make it even more likely to miss the net.  Luckily, I have a garage with extra space and moved my net inside after reorganizing a bit, but I still get timid and don’t follow through properly (unless it’s just a practice swing and not hitting a ball - my brain will let me do that).  Needless to say, I need to hang some additional nets to create something similar to a cage or the fear will always be there.

happened to me once. Skied a driver over the net. Never hit driver again into my net. I can get close enough to the net with irons that it’s not a concern or problem. I would def need a cage or something better to ever think about pulling out a drive in my yard.
