Holderness and Bourne Durability

Recommended Posts

Wanted to see what others thought, as I have had a string of recent bad luck with Holderness. I my first H&B purchase was years ago, when I got a tech polo that has held up great. I like the fit generally but find the long sleeve stuff slightly shorter in sleeve length but the styles won me over. I picked up a couple revised Ward sweaters and noticed a lot of pilling after wear. I got another tech polo that has weird runs in the fabric around where it tucks in. Finally I just got a Sullivan snap T and the fabric around the embroidery is worn out after wearing one day. Is anyone else seeing this kind of wear and tear from normal to light usage?  All times are club purchased at various places so I can’t just call H&B.

Dang was looking at H&B for some new shirts.  May have to rethink that.

Have not had issues at all until I got a new Sullivan Snap T that went thru the dryer on low and got noticeably fuzzier. I've air dried all my other HB so no issues there. Haven't had any issues with polos or belts except the polo fabric seems very susceptible to getting snags in the fabric from brushing against a bush or random edge of an object.

One of my tech polos have held up super well, the Sullivan was accepted by the golf shop as a return due to the fabric fraying around embroidery. I have had some spotty luck with their stuff, I have even seen some brand new vests already with pulled threads on display. It’s a bummer since their stuff looks so good.

I’ve had issues with a few of my recent purchases from them too.  It’s mainly been poor stitching that made the shirts look strange.  On both occasions it was on the placket of a Maxwell style.  Pretty disappointed but didn’t call them just decided I will likely not buy from them in the future.

I have 5 polos and haven't had any issues besides a tiny snag on one of my polos, but it's not great to be hearing of these quality issues.  Their polos happen to fit me better than any other brand, so I was considering getting more during their 25% sale right now.  But now I'm having second thoughts.

Every one of these companies has the occasional defective product.  PM, Summit, Greyson, H&B.  Any issues, just reach out to the company and they’ll almost always make it right.

Have a half dozen of their polos.  Had one problem three years ago:

Ordered a solid pique shirt.  A week after it arrived, I received an email from them that they recognized a problem with the cut of that particular color in multiple shirts.  Told me I could keep the defective shirt and gave me a credit to buy a new shirt online.  I had no idea because the cut issue was the torso being skinnier, and I am skinny anyway.

Long story short, they seem to be very on top of things, and I got two shirts for the price of one.

The shirts I have purchased are all performance fabric.  Last a long time and no issues.  Of course I always air dry my polos.

Any time I've had quality issues I've sent them an email with pictures and they replaced it right away - I appreciate companies that stand by their product.

Never purchased their clothing through a pro shop, always direct through H&B, so I can't speak to that process or how club logo embroidery holds up. I've had 1 out of maybe 18 polos that pulled, and one of their earlier style pullovers had really bad pilling issues with both colors I got. They replaced both and have since updated that style altogether with new fabrics.

As others have stated the 100% cotton items tend to shrink as most cotton garments do. However, their performance fabrics hold up very well and their collars retain their shape wash after wash. It's REALLY hard for me to go back to a floppy polo collar now... but I do enjoy Peter Millar pullovers/outerwear still.

H&B is the best in the business at the modern fit/classic style combo IMO.

I have no doubt they honor their product if bought direct, but makes me think twice before buying at a club I am visiting since it would hard to replace if this happens. Luckily the instance I’m speaking of was purchased at a club not far from me, and their shop honored the return no issue.

I bought 3 maxwell polos that I absolutely love and was close to redoing my entire wardrobe with these H and B.  After the first wear and wash all of them had significant pulls.  Super bummed I thought I found the holy grail.  Customer service was great and refunded all of them

I have 4-5 of their shirts, great fit but you really do need to pay attention when laundering them. Like others I'm going with all air dry on their polos now. I love the "traditional" look but for the price it feels like there is more long term durability in the competitor brands.

If I was starting over I'd have a closet full of PM Crown Crafted polos. Those things take so much abuse and look brand new after every laundry cycle.

I've got a couple which I've had for a couple months and washed a number of times and never had any issues, still look brand new! The collars still perfect which is the big thing.

Have a number of PM long sleeves in white and they have started fading over a slightly longer time-frame.

Kinda lucky we don't have a H&B stockist in the UK as i'd own a lot more than i do if we did

Bought a Lucas Shirt on my recent golf trip, was on sale and had a club logo at a course I played so double win.

It's nice, just wearing it at work but tucks in well, very nice collar and material. Not sure how it will hold up but time will tell, have another coming, not sure on model but just a solid navy but was cheap and needed more solid colors.
