Brooksville

Looking at potential winter golf trip options that are close-ish to but are outside of Orlando and am considering Brooksville. For those of you that have played in the area:

 

- What courses would you recommend?

- In general, what’s the average cost of a round in the winter in that area?

It used to be World Woods, but that's closed for renovation. Brooksville CC is a public course. The front 9 is an old Wm F Mitchell design and is very average. The back 9 is a more recent Bobby Weed design and is a lot of fun, making it worth a visit. Click on the photo below for a photo tour of Brooksville CC

 

Lake Jovita has two nice courses and is located about 30 minutes south of Brooksville.  Hernando Oaks is also nearby

A little on the pricier side but I would look at times for southern hills. Great dye course that’s kept in great shape. I think they hold a Korn ferry event out there. Semi private, but I think you can get tee times on teeoff.com.

@achun88 - when you say Southern Hills is a little on the pricier side, do you know what the approzimate cost per round will be in the winter?

World Woods was a great facility but is under new ownership and a major reconstruction project. A shame that they decided to shut down the whole deal instead of doing one course at a time.  I liked both courses.  It was also the nicest practice facility I have seen.

 

Brooksville County Club is one of my favorites and we do a scholarship event there every year.  It's one of the few places in Florida with some elevation change.  The front 9 is pretty bland but still offers some challenging shot shaping holes due to the age of the oak trees.  The back 9 is built in an old quarry and is super unique.  There is a drivable par 4 if you can carry the ball about 250-260, I've hit it a couple of times.  

 

Sherman Hills looks to be very affordable for a decent layout, but I have yet to play it.  Southern Hills is swanky.

Sure, quite a few hilly courses from Clermont up through the panhandle.  None with severe elevation like we had in Appalachia except for the manufactured ex-mine quarry holes.  I've always wanted to play Black Diamond Ranch but could never make it line up.  The NW FL stuff is just too much of a drive for a short weekend trip.  Lake City Country Club had a few neat holes if you end up moving the trip to a location more accessible from GA.

 

Last time I played Brooksville Country Club it was about $40.  The people in the club house are super nice, but I think it is under new ownership as well.
