Sounds fairly muted with a thwack for me the g430 Max. I think once u use Carbon on a driver that's usually the case.

I still own 2 Ping g400max 9 head and a ping g400 9 head. Haven't hit them in a while but the g400 range prob would go down as a classic. I honestly hit like 6-8 balls with the g430 Max I thought it feels more solid sounding and less draw biased than my g400 max but my swing prob have changed and shafts were different, but year feels more solid n muted and less draw biased would be the first two things that comes to my mind. G400 head less busy n cleaner too.

Less draw bias for the G430 Max sounds great and was what I was hoping for! That's the first time I read that experience and it's about all I have been hoping for from the G430 Max vs the G425 Max.

I think a lot more players would have gamed the G425 Max originally if it didn't have the massive draw bias..

Based on the reviews I’ve seen of them, it really seem like Ping started seeing basically very little difference in actual performance between the LST and Max lines (based off testing from another site that seems to be mostly true) where the Max was maintaining low ish spin, and the LST wasn’t that super low spin bomber so they just kind of merged. It seems like this year they set out to make the LST a true low spin driver head which does somewhat change their identity. But seems like the max is what we’ve come to expect from Ping and the LST is a different beast.

So just done my g430 fitting. Fitter got me started with 9 degree lst flat 9 degree weight neutral and tour 2.0 65s shaft. Trackman used tor fitting, 105mph, face to path after 15 shots was 0.0, small fade or small draw. 4-5 up, smash 1.46-1.50 average 1.47 (slightly lower than tsr3 at 1.50) average carry was 273 yards with 120 peak height and 32 land angle. New range balls that spun a little low at 1600-1800rpm but they normalised the spin. I reckon with my tour b xs numbers n spin could be better. Fitter felt my spin n launch was a touch low so switched me to max 9 head at flat 9 degree and weight to fade settings. Launch went up 1 degree spin went up 200-300rpm. Ball speed ticked up 2mph and dispersion tightened. He felt the peak height was a little high so swapped me.out to tour 2.0 (he told me Ping hired a guy from Aldila just to design all new shafts just for g430 and trust me they are good) 65x and 8 degree flat. Height came down but spin dropped and dispersion was still good but not as good as when it was flat 9 degree. So loft back to flat 9 degree 65x and best combi. 5 yard fade 273-277 yards for next 10 shots.

Are you talking about the Tour 2.0 Silver or the Tour 2.0 Black? So with your very neutral delivery, no bias on the Max head or was the weight at Fade needed for it to go straight?

Trackman and matt black Ping driver heads, would recommend comparing ball speeds rather then smash factor.

Matte Silver 2.0, they didn't have the 65x on the tour black shaft only the 75x. I'm no Ian Fraser, but the fitter was saying my hands at impact are very low and my toe at impact is so high the effect of the weight shift will be less than for someone who delivers the club more neutral. I duno if that's true or not but given he fits lpga and Asian tour players and he knows his stuff I take it that I'm not the best person to tell you if the weight shifting works for me or not. The loft yes that made a difference for me, as did the shaft change. Actually we end the session hitting a XT60S I think or XT60X, and I think it felt the best to me. I have a xd50x still so might shaft it up and see how it goes with my g430max.

Also there will be a g430 3 wood LST that's carbon crown and full titanium face/body with the price of the driver and its a cracker. Looking forward to try this. Seems like Ping made some serious heads for the new g430 line.

Ok cool! Had to ask about the Max's directional bias since for me, hands very high at impact and toe very down the G425 Max has a strong bias for the lefts (I am right handed). The only way I can hit it straight is weight in the toe (fade).

Seems like Al manages to hit nice little fades with the Max weight in the std setting:

Seems like the Max head is working great even with WRX level speeds that Alex has, and how good does that head sound! Massive upgrade from G425!

Like I said before, It seemed like they truly merged the Max and LST models of the 400/410/425 molds and basically made them the 430 max, and came up with something entirely different in the LST.  If you look at the MGS numbers on both (the 410 Plus/LST and 425 Max/LST), They are really similar, plus some forgiveness and minus a slight bit of spin (talking 100-200 rpms).

Let's see if the tsr3 or g430 Max tales the long term seat in the bag for 2023.

Not a fan of the iron loft gaps. They basically added a club between previous models' 7 iron and U/ gap wedge, and 3 of the wedges are the same length.

That seems like too much overlap for the player this line has traditionally been designed for. Too many options for mediocre players like me that like to keep it simple.

Looking forward to testing G430, lots of early adoption on tour. Sounds like TSR might be hotter and has decent numbers on miss hits? Gene Parente should have some test numbers coming out soon on off center hits. Going to take a close look at new Cobra, G430 and TSR to see what’s best on dispersion and distance.

What do you think of the driver?

Too early to tell, just 18 holes with the g430. I'd say on course the tsr3 prob 10-20 yards longer but there are those occasional draws that's too low spin n dives left. Not hooks but just a hard draw that doesn't have enough spin. The g430 on the other hand I had what I thought was a hook ended up left rough or even on the fairways. G430max def more neutral vs G425 Max. Its quite promising so far. Just ordered a new XD50x to put into the G430, not sure if I can pick up 1-2mph with a lighter shaft. If I can pick up another 5-10yards then I'd say G430 def in the bag vs tsr3.

That is what I wanted to hear. I had a bad case of the lefts with the G425 MAX that even the weight in the fade position could not correct. If they took that left bias out of the G430 MAX I will have to give it a try to kick out the GOAT (G400 MAX).

Yeah wow, was not expecting that from a PING Max model. It's hard to tell without comparisons on the same microphone setup, but that sounds like the current Rogue ST drivers. NOTHING like the normal aluminum bat sound of most prior PING Maxes.

Any swings out there with the Fairway Woods??

Yea hit the Max only LST wasn't available for fitting. Max in flat neutral averaged 255yards carry. Wrote about it in the first post so that's what I ordered. Didn't have My g425 max with Ventus Black 7x 42.75 to compare but with the camber helps to hit down n easier and looks to be less spinny and hits flatter balls. Ping fairways always good. Feels less hollow too.

Seems like this guy has a pretty strong in to out path and low spin swing, G430 Max is going to go in his bag. TSR2 is 4 mph faster but will find the woods more often. Would be interesting to see TSR1 vs G430 Max.

He also makes a good comparison how the G410 + was higher spin then G425 Max and also one of the reasons why a lot of low spin players struggled with G425 Max.

image.png.ed92765d40e3497c9e8a30c126ff7761.png

Here we finally have a "proper" head to head with G425 Max, seems like the sound and new bulge & roll make a difference and also a bit higher spin will fit a lot of players.

Took the G430 Max out for a session with 4 different shafts and length (flat -1), no trackman, Srixon range balls, so just sharing what I feel and see:

1) Ping tour 2.0 65x @ 45.25

2) Kurokage XD50x @ 45.50

3) Fujikura NX60x @ 45.50

4) Fujikura Ventus Blue 6x @ 45.50

Feel wise the Ping Tour felt like it was the most solid and gave the best compression feel and sound. Next best feel was the XD50x mainly cause its light n softer with the TiNi whip through the ball. NX6x felt very muted.

Distance, the Speeder NX6x was the longest on carry, very straight for me but maybe cause I'm used to the shaft in my G425 LST. Next was the Ping tour 2.0 65x, followed by the Ventus Blue 6x. The only reason the XD50x is the shortest mainly cause I was hitting high cuts with it n the launch n spin jumped but the ball did feel fast off the face with the xd50x.

Dispersion, toss up between the Ping Tour 2.0 65x and the Ventus Blue 6x.

Will be heading down to use the trackman this Saturday and see which combo actually give the best combi.

How does the G430 Max 3W compare to the G425 Max 3W in terms of shape? It's hard to tell without side-by-side pictures. Is the face still that shallow? More of a cambered sole than the G425's flat sole?

Hi Eric, not as cambered as say my Ping Rapture fairway or my Callaway TD 3T fairway but def not as flat as g425 max. Slight camber at the bottom which for someone who hita down 1-2 degrees off the deck is good. Shape and size wise I'd say less squashed/flat, slightly more rounded at the back. Spins a little less for me vs g425max which is where I think they got it right, easy to launch with lower spin. The g425max fw were great but I think spun abit on the high side. If u hit down spins ever more. The G430 lst 3w looks like a bomber. Haven't hit it yet but if its got the DNA of TM with carbon crown plus the titanium face and body for the feel n explosiveness and forward CG, and retain the Ping forgiveness I think it's gona be scary good. But comes at a price. Same price as the g430 driver.

Totally not the point of this thread but I just have to say the DP Tour does an outstanding job with these kinds of videos and their social media in general!

Now, I feel compelled to say something on the point of the thread - I do think the G430 sounds great from what I’ve heard. 😀

    • In-hand photos of 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus, Stealth 2, Stealth 2 HD drivers + fairways woods
Check out our front page launch stories here and here.

What you need to know: For the first time, carbon is the most prevalent material by volume in a TaylorMade driver, and more carbon equals better performance, says the company. Last year, TaylorMade debuted a 60X Carbon Twist Face. With TaylorMade Stealth 2, engineers are bringing carbon to more of the golf club — and unveiling a new-and-improved Carbon Twist Face in the process. Stealth 2 Plus (low spin, most workable) Stealth 2, and Stealth 2 HD (draw bias, high launch, most forgiving) drivers make up the Stealth 2 family.

What you need to know: Breakthrough movable weight technologies and versatile designs are the hallmarks of the 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway woods. Stealth 2 Plus is branded as “three fairway woods in one” owing to the unique performance characteristics afforded by the 50-gram sole weight. Stealth 2 features a slightly lower profile 3D carbon crown than Stealth. This moves CG down and away from the toe with more weight in the rear of the club for higher launch and MOI. Ultra-high MOI Stealth 2 HD features an oversized 200cc head and low-profile sole, creating an easy-to-hit, draw-biased club.
