When did fashion peak on tour?

Either Couples is too much David Simms or David Simms is too much Couples, but I can't do it.

Never seen Luke Donald in anything garish.

My answer is early 1960's.  Still rather subdued and a touch on the more formal side.  Pre-polyester flower power, flamboyant colored stuff. It actually mirrors decently what is popular now from brands like Peter Millar and Link Soul.  Slim cut slacks that are neat and without much break, trim sport shirts that are subdued colors and dressed up with a cardigan.

Things accelerated in a bold direction not long after that.  By 1965 the colors and styles were getting gaudy.  Late 60's things were fully off the rails.

Just thinking reading @Double Mocha Man's comment, it is actually hard to dress poorly.  Don't wear white pants.  Keep the patterns on your shirts subtle.  Where clothes that fit.

Grey slacks, solid or small patterned shirt.  Navy slacks, solid or small patterned shirt.  Black slacks, solid or small patterned shirt.  Shoes make the look too.  Don't wear white shoes with black slacks.  White is fine with navy and grey.  Brown (which you don't see much anymore) pair fine with grey and navy.  You might even pull off navy shoes with grey slacks.  I think a cream colored pair of slacks can work too, I just would not go white.  I like olive green slacks but pairing the proper shoes with them has been a challenge for me.

Perfect, but I would need a hat for sun protection.

I hate pleated pants, but not as much as the joggers.

Joggers are the worst.

See loads agree with this... personally, I prefer tailored pants or shorts and very few logos. Looks classy - get the fit right.... Loads to love about this look and fit. I also dont love the way the new "performance fabrics" sit. Some nice mercerized cotton with a form fitting shirt - pity we dont get much of it any longer...

The most important factor is having clothes that FIT. Wild colors can look great if the clothes fit. Same with plain old tan pants and a white shirt — that can look great if it fits properly and pair it with a killer pair of polished leather shoes.

Phil is a great example — Tom Ford makes his pants…but on the occasions where he doesn’t get the fit right, it does not matter who the designer is and how nice the material is.

Second to fit is the material used, and here I differ from popular opinion. I get the comfort / usefulness of the “technical” synthetics, but I hate the way most of them look (looking at you, Nike.)

Olive green trousers?

May I suggest these? Black shoes. Dark brown suede shoes. Burgundy shoes.

I don't think they make zippers 2 feet long anymore. I will say though - one advantage of those pants is you can disguise your love handles as they are cinched at the belly button.

No taboos here. Not only are black and navy shades ultra-versatile, but they’re also an easy way to add a contemporary vibe to your work and weekend attire.

The above has to be correct because it is on the internet🙂

Personally, I like both brown and black with navy.

Only so much you can do with a polo-shirt  and pants. Don't think it's ever peaked or is even close to peaking. Let alone call what they wear on tour fashion.

If forced, when baggy disappeared and more form fitting attire showed up is when 'fashion' peaked. Henrik Stenson with his Hugo Boss outfit is probably my choice. Always reminded me of the scene from Goldfinger where Bond had the slim outfit compared to the baggy outfit - Euro vs. US style which is still the case to this day ;-).

McIlroy's tribute to Palmer.

And before finding the range, McIlroy was asked about his ‘Arnold Palmer’ outfit and revealed he nearly teed-up without wearing a cap.

“Arnie, definitely wore it better. Nike wanted to do something pretty special for this week so it was just a little tribute to him,” said McIlroy.

“It's a -- he was a bit of a style icon, I guess, and, yeah, we just wanted to do something that was a tribute to him and that picture of him in the navy top and these coloured pants is a very iconic photo, so just trying to sort of emulate that a bit.

“I was also thinking as Arnie didn’t wear a cap so I would do but I just thought I would feel a bit uncomfortable, so I decided to wear a cap.”
