Tiger & Rory vs Jordan & JT, The Match (No LIV talk ; )

The four superstars committed to the exhibition series, which will be held for the seventh time and second in 2022 after a duel between NFL quarterbacks was contested in June. The Match will be held Dec. 10 at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. It is expected to start at 7 p.m. under the lights, with the match going 12 holes.

I wonder if the pga tour is making them pay 1 million each to play in this?  Should be a fun match with some fun trash talk.  I’ve got spieth and Thomas winning.

Pretty sure Rory isn't expecting or demanding OWGR points and major invitations for participating in something Tiger would call, "a hit and giggle".

Great group for the match, hope it's entertaining. JT and Jordan should run away with this since Tiger is more of a handicap than asset for Rory.

For the thousandth time, the golfers themselves are not on the hook for any broadcast rights fee, the broadcast company--in this case Turner--is. Mickelson was flat out lying, or, if you want to be really charitable about it, he was greatly stretching the truth.

I'm pretty sure the entire point is to be a bit silly. It isn't a tournament, it's a charity exhibition.

I think things like, "The Match" and the "Senior Skins Game" are completely reasonable and occasionally fun events to hold during the offseason. It keeps the sport and its stars in the public eye during a period when football dominates and many can't play due to weather. 

 

Silly events like this also provide the opportunity to let the players personality shine. Phil can be a pretty funny guy and a good trash talker. Bryson was an absolute bore and a suck up. Events like this were made for guys like Lee Trevino, who had wit and humor in spades. That personality isn't typically on display when you're grinding on an Open Championship. 

 

I'll watch a few holes and if JT and Spieth can entertain, I'll probably watch the whole thing. If it's as dull as Bryson v Brooks, I'll find something else.

The way to really spice it up would be an 18 hole match. Wolf alt shot, automatic one down presses, double carryovers, each player required to drink a six pack of Bush tall boys, and play Lions Municipal in ATX.

That doesn't automatically mean the players aren't getting paid for it. I'm not saying they are or aren't, but just that the phrase doesn't mean that for sure.

I saw someone saying they should do an odd format like worst ball where the opponent gets to pick which ball you play. Something like that would be interesting since they are all pros
