My (assumption) is it's more a feel thing for Gary as I agree he doesn't appear to swing that fast or violent really.

He goes from wide to narrow and float loads a ton at the top.

Anyone know if the 44 5/8” means shaft length or playing length? I imagine it’s shaft length because that ball is launching EXTREMELY low if its playing that length, with that loft and that shaft.

This. I'd wander a guess that there might not be another regular player on the PGA that puts as much force into the grip end because of that float load and transition. He makes CT 130X look like a noodle. I remembered Ian talked about fitting him. As a side note, that Cobra driver looks so awful and the name might be worse. Sounds like a TM driver from 10 years ago.

Not really surprising on the looks of TM of years past considering Tom Olsavsky (not sure if spelled correctly) came from TM.  You are right though, it resembles

a lot of the aeroburner woods.  Just more advanced in tech.

It has a 90g shaft so that makes up for any SW loss from an approx .5” shorter set up. It also has interchangeable weights. Guarantee the lead tape is for tinkering while he dials it in before any hot melt.

Yeah it's all about how much force he creates in transition:

Big timing narrowing a'la Sergio here, two guys with very similar taste in driver shafts over the years as well from a profile standpoint.

An article quoted him saying to the likes the driver feels good and the number on the misses were good as well.

like what is he comparing that too? The Wilson crap last year lol. I don’t recall him testing the ltdx ls because I game that and it’s really hard for me to believe the Aerojet is that much better than the ltdx ls. It’s such a fantastic head

The ltdx line of drivers was really, really good.

But back when those dropped, Bryson was talking about this driver.

So, it'll be interesting.

There's an interview with Tiger Woods where he was asked about playing with Dustin Johnson and how he's faring against the longest guy on tour (DJ was at that time leading driving distance). Tiger laughed and said something along the lines of "uhhhh... longest? Woodland is the longest. He's got 2 more gears than DJ."

Woodland messed up his rotator cuff in college, he was averaging in the low-130 CHS on course. You can find plenty of interviews and also video of him going 190+ ball speed, he doesn't pull it out very often in tournaments. He's currently 19th and averaging 182+.

^^^ YUP.

I've followed him numerous times at tournaments, super nice guy and super efficient swing. High, flat ball flight that goes for miles. Woodland is one of my faves, I very much envy his economy of motion.

Resurfacing this thread. Ive been a huge fan of Gary for years and absolutely love his swing. With all this talk on his swing speed and his shafts, I just wanted to give my 2 cents. As someone else mentioned above, theres not a guy on tour that loads the shaft like Gary does. His wide, no hinge backswing, and then yank on the handle narrow downswing makes the shaft look like spaghetti.  There's very few, if any, that play the C taper 130 X.

His ball speed is usually in the low 180's so his swing is fast.  That's on his stock swing.  I'm sure he can krank it up to the high 180's when he needs it.

Gary is one of very few on tour that can hit 200 ball speed. Bryson, Finau, Champ, only others I can think of Maybe Hagy and Neinaber also.
